Wow, Amaranth (the HDL) is so easy to hack! Building and flashing a blinky to my old Arty A7-35 on a Mac with an unsupported toolchain version (openXC7 fork of nextpnr-xilinx) took about 2 hours and most of the time was spent on building nextpnr-xilinx, figuring out the best way to use their FASM integration and also fighting with MacPorts a bit. Making Amaranth build system work with this took only 15 minutes and about 10 lines of code which change string values for part numbers. No patches were required. All I needed was to install latest amaranth and amaranth_boards from PyPI. That is so good.
