RE: https://mastodon.social/@QasimRashid/117345830006269910 "Take note, whenever women point out all men need to do more to stop the abuse of women, inevitably some men respond 'NOT ALL MEN!' Let me be clear—those men are confessing and should be treated accordingly. Men who center themselves over the women suffering abuse are telling on themselves. Believe them."

This is an article for men. Women already know this. A few months ago I wrote an article titled “Women are not safe around men” and I got 100s of messages from angry men chewing me out. This week a woman filed a civil suit against 7 men at Cornell University for drugging, trafficking, and raping her. Zero have faced any criminal charges. Men throughout the societal ladder are complicit. Women are not safe around men. And the data is devastating. https://www.qasimrashid.com/p/cornell-university-systemic-sexual

I don't know where those behind the "thin scrollbar" trend got their computing education, but they need to go back there and do the HCI course again. Then they need to spend at least a week using glasses that distort their eyesight while they work, so they can learn what people with vision challenges experience while trying to use what they built.

Same for the "small text" trend. And the "it doesn't matter how much you zoom or unzoom this page nothing changes" trend.

@jonny@neuromatch.social I've heard there are IPOs in the pipeline for Perplexity, Anthropic and OpenAI, and a stock sale planned by Alphabet. I believe this is described as "dumping on retail" (so the VCs can get their money out before people see the snake oil for what it is and stop buying it).

@kopper@not-brain.d.on-t.work "We don't have the standards" has also been the stock excuse for half a decade. Meanwhile, other protocols have been able to do this all along. @jonny@neuromatch.social is one of the few people who have stood up and contributed something that can move the fediverse forward on this.

@YakyuNightOwl@mastodon.world @AndreaPitzer@journa.host "Dr. Dean, a co-researcher, said the findings left no doubt in his mind that many German citizens, despite the frequent claims of ignorance after the war, must have known about the widespread existence of the Nazi camps at the time." This is why accountability must reach all the way down into the roots. If people had learned they would face consequences for what they enable, support, amplify and empower, perhaps we wouldn't be facing the same hazard now.

I shouldn't have to pay anything. It's a 13-year-old unit, and I have cleaned it, but everyone I speak with has gone to great lengths to tell me that if it's found that the failure was due to me, I will have to pay. He keeps taking calls with the management company out of my earshot, which seems suspicious.

Not having a great day. Then I went to YouTube to try to find a film trailer and had Japan xenophobia rage bait shoved in my face by the algorithm.

I'm starting to think the reason the world is going to hell in a handcart is so many people have it good. They have it so easy they think it is easy, and that it's easy for everyone, when the only reason it's easy for them is other people's unacknowledged labour. Maybe the collapse of civilisation is what we need.

(So yeah, not a great day.)

@fst@mstdn.io @FluentInFinance@mastodon.social I'm not willing to pay anything to a vendor that charges me twice as much as the person stood next to me for the same item. The market sets the price at what people *collectively* are willing to pay. There are reasons people ended up shopping more in stores with price labels than markets where everything was haggled for. A retail experience dark age fueled by technology intended to erase community power holds zero appeal.

@kopper@not-brain.d.on-t.work @jonny@neuromatch.social Oh, when you said "without Everyone jumping in all at once" you meant all the maintainers of different Fediverse platforms? That wasn't clear. But addressing it, now that it is clear, it would work the same way as every other new functionality works that affects the various platforms. It's not right that Mastodon has such an outsize dominance on how the protocols work, but given that it does, it can be used for good in this case to introduce true mobility within Mastodon at least. Others can choose when they follow, just as they do with other functionality.

Also, it's already 32°C in the room at 10:54 a.m. And if the engineer does show up, he's probably going to leave the window open for ages staring at the air conditioner compressor which I already told Daikin three days ago isn't working, to make sure it isn't working. Why do they bother building machines with error codes if they're still going to insist on sending out an engineer to assess the error?

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot It's a cheek, as well. Because even as someone who wasn't born in Scotland and isn't Scottish, to me if you want to be ruled by Westminster, live in the country that is under the sole rule of Westminster. "I want to live in the U.K. but I also want to live in Scotland, and I also want to make sure Scotland doesn't leave the U.K." is a mindset that doesn't make sense to me. Like some kind of fundamentalist settler mindset. It's not as though the independence movement is a surprise.

He finally called, at 12:15 p.m. Said he was at the front door. I told him I'd asked for a call first and made him wait five minutes. He waited 10. Now he seems to think he can fix it with a part, so he's on the balcony taking it apart. Didn't isolate it at the fuse box, just pulled the inner unit's plug out of the socket. But if this fixes it and I don't have to pay anything, all will be well.
