Watching @LaF0rge@chaos.social 's great talk on wired phone services at #39c3 and trying really hard to resist the urge to buy an ISDN video phone on eBay 🙈

Seeing things about hosting websites on old phones, powered via solar, .... The thing I don't quite get about that is they're connected via wifi. To a router that's probably just as powerful and could do that job. But it's probably also not solar powered. So are these mostly art projects? Is there a way to make this "properly" a sustainable thing? What's the real goal? #permacomputing

@becha@social.v.st that sounds like an interesting event, though highly unlikely I'd find the time to go there next year 🙈

#Electronics question. Imagine you’re building a small guitar amp, like the Ruby or Noisy Cricket, and want to power it using a LiIon or similar battery instead of a 9V block. Would it be better to use a 1S configuration with a step-up converter (simpler charging circuit, but potentially more noise during operation) or a 3S configuration without the DCDC converter between battery and amp (hopefully no extra noise introduced, but more complex charging circuitry)?

@wusel@fed.uu.org I came across some other Cisco conference thing at restlos a few weeks ago, and would've loved to play around with it but there are already so many other things on the project list...

@stfn@mastodon.com.pl ok, this is at least coherent. You're off-grid with it, so that's surely an achievement and makes sense. Still triggers a few thoughts, like I'd assume using LTE would overall use more power (thinking LTE base station etc) than a comparable home-wired-connection setup. But this all depends on what you're goal is at the end of the day.
