@ned@beige.party ugh. Let's make sure all us sane people get out and vote on October 19th. ❤️🇨🇦

@cyberlyra@hachyderm.io I live in Alberta and I'm a proud Canadian. And I only know a few people who swing towards separatist views. I'll be voting to stay in Canada for sure. This is a great country.

@schwa@mastodon.social interesting. I've never voted in a UK election. We moved from there to Canada when I was 6 months old. I suppose I could. I have a current UK passport.

@Cdespinosa@mastodon.social and I'm sure Wall Street will be punishing AAPL for that tomorrow because of some tiny metric they don't like.

@agiletortoise@mastodon.social my first was an Apple ][+. I carried it in a brown leather case on a plane as carry on luggage from Orange County in the US up to Canada. Then I won a //e in a contest a couple years later. Then had a //gs (one of the Woz signature editions). Then moved on to the Mac. Good times.

@isaiah@mastodon.social I save whenever I call defaults.setXxxFor(key:). Just a plist write to the file system within the document bundle folder. DocumentProperties.plist is the file I wrote to. And since my app is a database app I write to the database all the time as users make changes. Not just by pressing save. My document is never really in a dirty state.

@paul @marcoarment agree. It's not hard to pull from CloudKit every once in a while or add a Sync Now button. I sync when the app comes to the foreground. Mac and iOS. Plus have a button. And a switch to toggle auto sync. And a sync delay setting.

@isaiah@mastodon.social I've been doing that for years now. Just a dictionary of key values stored in a plist file within the document bundle. I just load it in when the document is instantiated. I modeled it directly after NSUserDefaults. I called it ..... TFUserDefaults. Very original 😆

@justkwin @zbender @lukaskubanek weird. I wrote a new sync engine using CKSyncEngine and it seemed to work sometimes. I was testing last night by making a change on an old Sonoma MBP and I watched my 26.4 Tahoe Mac update. It took about a minute to update though but it did without my intervention. But I have noticed the notifications don't always arrive so I have to manually sync frequently. Maybe it's only an iOS 26.4 issue. I'll do more testing and file feedback.

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social this is really nice. The toolbar buttons look like they're part of the window instead of floating a foot above like in os26. And I love the sidebar.

@fj@mastodon.social I'm no musk fanboy. Despise the guy. Bought my M3 in early 2019 before all his crap. Charge at home from solar and the grid 99.9% of the time. But occasionally I have to go to the supercharger. What do I do if I can't get home with the charge I have if I don't stop at the supercharger? Can't afford to sell mine to get a new EV. Besides that would just be passing the issue on to someone else anyway. I'm not a nazi sympathizer AT ALL just because I own a Tesla.

I guess Wall Street really doesn't like AAPL right now. Brutal. 😭

@agiletortoise@mastodon.social And we're all glad you came back to the Mac! I've never ever owned a PC before. I used to program one when I was doing consulting work at a paper mill company. Remember PowerBuilder? But never had my own PC. I've always been deeply entrenched in the Apple ecosystem.

@isaiah@mastodon.social I don't use NSFileWrapper. Maybe that's why it works for me. I still use NS/UIDocument though. I just treat the bundle like the root of my folder hierarchy.

@niksu@mastodontti.fi you need an adaptor which I don't have, to use CCS but it takes longer to charge than a supercharger too.

@wndxlori@ruby.social this whole thing is insane. I registered for early mail in voting. I expect the lineups to be long and slow on referendum day.
