AI job losses free up time for unemployed mobs to burn down tech CEO‘s houses

https://www.thebeaverton.com/2026/03/ai-job-losses-free-up-time-for-unemployed-mobs-to-burn-down-tech-ceos-houses/

"“Back when I had a job I never would’ve had the free time to organize an unruly rabble and march towards the beach house of (Open AI CEO) Sam Altman. But now I’m getting so much more violent retribution accomplished in a day.”"

@wyatt_h_knott@mstdn.social @quixoticgeek@social.v.st AIUI town gas never worked great, and was highly toxic, but was available.... I think the fossil industry is quite keen to keep the "natural" part of the name alive. Wrote briefly on this in 2022, though little that @quixoticgeek@social.v.st didn't already say. https://www.simonwaldman.me.uk/2022/10/16/the-name-of-natural-gas/ An interesting side point is that that mass-conversion of cooking appliances when the switch was made would probably not be possible nowadays post-privatization - compare with the mess of smart meter rollouts, for example.

@Fruan@kind.social @alice@lgbtqia.space that would conflict with "We can always tell". Not that logical consistency is always a requirement with this lot, I'll admit.

Bought a new Samsung tablet. Discovered that Samsung Keyboard keeps a log of everything that goes through your clipboard, even if you do not use Samsung Keyboard. No way to disable it short of ADB.

Very much not impressed.

@phl@mastodon.social @alice@lgbtqia.space I've always assumed it's because it would be diplomatically awkward to do otherwise.

@stefanlindbohm I don't think I'd seen Railfinder before - this looks great, and I look forward to trying it for real the next time I'm off my island. A question / possible bug, though: does it use a specific time zone, or always local? Because if it's always local, then this duration is wrong.

@marymessall@mendeddrum.org I've seen it pointed out elseweb that if they think that they are the last mortal generation, it also explains an awful lot else...

@JubalBarca Hear here. I've applied for lots of stuff in the last two years, but done almost no actual research - because applying for grants is more important to my employer.

@Ilka4You@mastodon.social @juergen_hubert@mementomori.social @alice@lgbtqia.space You seem to be assuming that everybody who voted Democrat (and around half of those who didn't vote) would be a refugee? That's very different to "those who are being actively persecuted". In fact I am sure that the vast majority of blue voters either (a) want to fight to turn things around, or (b) aren't sufficiently bothered to uproot their lives. They're not the people we're talking about here.

@howlingeverett @cstross Maybe - but remember that the RAM and the GPUs being sold to data centres are not consumer units, and the RAM at least is not compatible with consumer motherboards (not sure about the GPUs, but they won't have good gaming driver support)
