2/2 Self-hosting can be a hassle, sure. But there's a difference in being treated like a baby by a company setting arbitrary restrictions on you, versus dealing with real problems you can actually learn from, and grow. #selfHosting

A frustrating thing that struck me after moving my whole family's photo collection to self hosted immich:
Even if my put my photos in a safe photo app, and share photos with others via safe chat apps, the second they save it it goes POOF up to the google/microsoft/apple cloud via auto-upload on their own device, without me knowing it.
But I digress, Immich is awesome

@bobmagicii@phpc.social If we make too much fun of them, it's a double blow. Don't get me wrong, some ppl are assholes in the way they push this "digital asbestos" everywhere they go. But, some people are in good faith disillusioned enough to think llms are better qualified than them, and I don't think they deserve to get humiliated for believing so.

@bobmagicii@phpc.social I used to be frustrated and annoyed with ppl who resort to "gpt wrote this for me", for example when having a presentation, or when I ask them for some advice.
But now, I'm more saddened and maybe even feel bad for them. Because I see more and more examples of people sort of "giving up", thinking that this llm knows/understands as much or more than they do.
"Why don't you ask chatgpt instead of asking me?" Is so sad to hear someone say. They lose faith in their own judgement.

@bobmagicii@phpc.social I get your point, and in many cases I totally agree. But I will differentiate between people who gulp slop and brag about it to feel superior, and ppl who struggle to keep up, don't know much about the technology, with their heart in the right place
