I reckon there's a high degree of probability whoever at OpenAI decided to notify Australia of its 'misalignment' attack by emailing the badnews@gov.au inbox had no idea the company has a government relations team who could have made a more graceful disclosure. That could be bad internal comms, or just a company growing too fast to even think about how to set rules for technical teams. This is not an excuse by the way - I have always said there's no such thing as a PR crisis. It's always a crisis caused by bad behaviour. In this case, OpenAI not monitoring its agents during tests. FFS, these people.

If your boss tells you to automate stuff with agentic AI, just keep using scripts and call it a 'zero-token architecture' https://www.theregister.com/2026/04/08/automation_zerotoken_architecture_ai/

Help me out hivemind: Kmart this week started selling a thing called an "Automatic mouse mover" (See https://www.kmart.com.au/product/automatic-mouse-mover-43721283/) that jiggles a mouse to stop a PC from going into sleep mode. There are plenty of similar devices on Amazon. They feel daft to me given it's possible to just set a PC not to go to sleep. The suspicion is that these things let you fake working remotely. Or am I being too cynical and missing a legit use for these things?  Send me clever takes on these things - I hope to write this on Monday

The thing for me about Barnaby and the dog was that he chose to shout rather than explain and engage - and I think that betrays his mindset. He could easily have said 'Sorry, Sara, my lovely dog here is barking and that's making it hard to respond' then picked up the dog and got a cute TV moment. Instead he shouted and showed himself a man who tries to dominate, not conciliate.

My potted bamboo is putting up new shoots. In late June (southern hemisphere). Weird stuff like this keeps happening in the garden. Like tomatoes flowering most of the year ... whatever could be the cause?

From the press release announcing a new solar farm/battery project in NSW:

"The project was initiated by local sheep farmers who wanted to future-proof their land. The solar design actively accommodates continued grazing - a growing model for social licence in rural communities."

And my Super fund is among the investors!

Here's an Iran endgame: let Trump appoint himself king of Iran. He's always wanted to be a king. Then he owns the mess.
