I've talked to Saorsa before and if I remember correctly his main issue with the init that unlike Linux with a typical systemd setup he had to write init scripts on FreeBSD which wasn't something that he had to do on Linux.
Personally I do think that rc.d is one of the nicer inits

Take Trump and Obama, in this case Trump is Valve competitors and Valve is Obama, fundementally they both do the same things in the background, with maybe Valve (Obama) having a big W like SteamOS (ACA) but in the background it's mostly the same, with the president analogy this would be things like corporate lobbying, wars and bombing. With these companies it's things like limiting ownership, having poor policies, vendor lock-in and other things.
Yet people don't hate Obama or Valve, but they sure as hell hate Trump and Valve competitors, it's all because Obama and Valve were able to wrap up their shit in presentable ways. That's all it is.

I think systemd is a mediocre attempt at making Linux more like BSD.
Linux has for a while suffered due to a lack of cohesiveness with utilities in the userland, something FreeBSD due to the nature of the OS hasn't. If we want to be even more comparative systemd literally just launchd (which is on a BSD based system inspired by BSD philosophy) for Linux.

Basically what he said lmao, Brew is horrendous, meanwhile Nix let's you use the insane collection of nixpkgs on Mac, and if you really want to spice shit up you can use NixDarwin, which in my humble opinion is better than NixOS since NixOS is Linux, which let's you have NixOS like configuration for your system. All without having to install another OS on your Mac.
NixDarwin is especially amazing imo because instead of relying on systemd like NixOS it uses the actually good systemd aka launchd. But declarative systems might not be for everyone.
Either way definitely try using Nix on Mac first I'd say, if you like it you can stick with it or try NixDarwin, I'd you don't Asahi will still be there.
