Does anyone make a consumer uninterruptible power supply that doesn't completely deplete its expensive ($55 OEM, ~$25 3rd party, in my specific case) lead-acid battery in 18 months regardless of whether it ever actually uses it? Because I'm getting real tired of this cyberpower one.

Somehow everything else that uses a lead-acid battery can keep it alive for years with much heavier use so I don't understand how it's possible for the UPS to kill it after maybe 3-5 charge cycles in 18 months

Please boost this so that I can get some product recommendations

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space @ari@fedi.arimelody.space don't take this as saying you should boost anything that you don't like/find interesting, I'm just sharing my approach as another ace-spec person in the hopes you may find it interesting tbh I've almost never actually, like, been *attracted* to any of the porn I've boosted on here. it's like 50% aesthetic for me, as I consider pornographic photography/painting/drawing as an artform, like 25% is very abstracted attraction, adjacent to but not quite the same as aegosexuality I guess, and the last 25% is semi-impersonally wanting the posters to find success and to celebrate the lack of such censorial policies on here. main exception being when I had a partner who posted nudes on here, that was different but I do have a number of filters set which keep me from even seeing probably 40% of the nsfw posts that hit my timeline because there's still kind of a lot of it that I am actually uncomfortable with/repulsed by, and I only boost like 1/4 of even what gets through them

@cassolotl@eldritch.cafe @WizardOfDocs@wandering.shop to me it makes sense if you replace "happening" with "experiencing" or "going through" which while it changes the verb's valence/syntax doesn't actually change its meaning *that much*

@senil@gts.social.senil.me goldenmate does seem reasonably price-competitive with cyberpower, so if I do a full replacement that seems to be a good option as far as I can tell, cyberpower is using AGM batteries, which are a type of deep-cycle lead-acid battery so they should be able to tolerate charge cycles pretty well aiui? better than an ordinary car battery at any rate. but the ups might still be going out of even agm's recommended parameters. it doesn't give much control to the user over them I agree with you about using lead-acid at all anymore seeming like a bad standard though

my body is currently demanding in no uncertain terms to be crushed in another person's embrace for as long as I can stand

unfortunately, there is nobody here I can ask for a hug from

@jpm@aus.social in this case it seems to be a cheap UPS that takes proprietary batteries, or at least, CyberPower has obfuscated it very well if they aren't. there are generics available and they are half the cost, but it seems they need to be exactly model-matched lasting 3-5 years would at least be expected, the problem is, I've only even had this thing for under 5 years, and for close to one year of that it's not even been in use, and this is the second battery that needs replacement. and since I don't test it regularly (because I never remember, not as any strategy on my part) I don't actually know how long it's been dead for but probably some time. so, maybe they're lasting two years, though not with very usable capacity in the latter parts of their lifespans. in any case I don't have a soldering iron or know how to use one

@runningoff@lgbtqia.space I can't immediately find a drop-in replacement for this particular model, as cyberpower seems to like using different nonstandard form-factors for every few models. do you have any more specific advice how to find these? it seems like it'd be a much cheaper option if I can do it

@fwaggle@moodoo.org @jpm@aus.social CP825LCD I think (all the 825s are now discontinued, naturally), in any case the battery itself's model number is RB1280A

@fwaggle@moodoo.org @jpm@aus.social it is basically an ordinary battery but I don't know if it's an actually standard form factor, CyberPower doesn't say and everything else I've seen claims compatibility only with individual model numbers. you'd at least think that if it's a standard form factor the compatibility list on the generics would be larger
