If you listen to YouTube in a background tab on your laptop, know that music.youtube.com is lighter (less JS) than regular www.youtube.com. 8 MB vs. 14 MB.

I’m interested in HTML, CSS, and making the web less annoying. My name is pronounced ˈshe-meh.
Proposal H (birds) is best, but I want proposal F (beard) to win because I love quirky.

I was pouring hot water into a pot, and I spilled it all over my kitchen table because I was waiting for a very bloated website to load in my other hand.
What are your views on those big buttons in the hero section of a website that, when clicked, scroll down to the next section of the page?
I don’t like them. Scrolling down is the most natural thing that the user does on the web. There is no need to incite the user to scroll. If the user does not scroll, they’re just not interested, and no button can “fix” that. The button is just clutter. I don’t like clutter on web pages. Web pages should be as simple as possible. Zero clutter.

If “cute” was a German word, it would be written kjüt.
I just realized that the English language does have the German ü sound. But it does not have the ö sound.
Some users on Reddit are still sharing AMP links to news articles.

Nintendo has never publicly revealed or credited the individual artist who designed the font in 1967 that is still used in their logo today.
Looks like I’ve been steeping my green tea leaves for far too long. 1 to 3 minutes is enough.
Xiaomi phones have system apps (e.g. Mi Music) that periodically show slop notifications that cannot be disabled. This is anti-user.

I remembered that I made “What are my CSS user preferences?”

(looks like nothing has changed in the last 2 and a half years in terms for browser support)
I never want to become a public figure because I don’t want thousands/millions of people to form opinions about me. Most of those opinions would be inaccurate. You can’t form a proper opinion about me without meeting me in person and interacting with me for at least a couple of hours. I don’t want to be misjudged by so many people. That sounds like hell.
The first commercial robotaxi service in Europe, and it’s in my city. I did not expect this.

Maybe if more people blocked cross-site scripts, newspapers would not think that I’m a robot.

At the beginning of the day, you start your computer and open your web browser. The web browser indicates that an update is available. Do you restart the browser now to update it or ignore the update for while?

First time I see this “link mismatch detector” in my email client (@thunderbird@mastodon.online)
Instead of just using https://gov.de, the German government redirects it to https://www.digitale-verwaltung.de. That’s such a German thing to do.
I still have an Intel-based MacBook, which does not seem to support limiting battery percentage to something like 80% while plugged in (it always charges to 100%), so I finally looked into it, and apparently there are third-party tools for that. I tried AlDente, and it seems to get the job done:
If cocaine is anything like cocoa powder, it’s impossible to use without creating a mess and leaving traces of it everywhere.
Not sure if this theme switcher is new or I just never noticed it until now (in @thunderbird@mastodon.online)
A slight redesign of Firefox just dropped in @firefoxnightly@mastodon.social. All the UI elements have very round edges now. … Probably not the first time in Firefox’s history.

My father has an iPhone 14 but with a thick case on it that prevents him from easily using the Silent mode switch on the left side of the phone.
So I thought, there must be a software toggle in Control center … No.
The only way to toggle Silent mode in software is to turn on Assistive touch and have a floating button on the screen at all times.
What’s that? There is mute button in Control center? Yes, but only on newer iPhone models that don’t have the physical switch on the side. So dumb.

In Croatian:
legitimize = to ask someone to prove their identity based on an ID card
e.g. the police legitimizes the protester.
I don’t know why “identify” was not good enough, but ok.
What do you think about this *intentional* layout shift on Formula 1’s website? I think it should be avoided.
Will Apple change MacBooks to comply with EU’s battery regulation? The deadline is February 2027.
> AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop
Pre-2022 content will become more and more valuable. People will more and more start watching older movies specifically because they aren’t contaminated with AI.
That’s how I feel about CGI already. Movies from the 1980s have better acting because it had to be coordinated with time-consuming special effects. Today it’s just casual acting in front of green screens and “we’ll do it in post”

Given enough time, could you eventually solve a Rubik’s cube without any external help whatsoever? Be honest.
