@a2_4am@mastodon.social @LaineNooney@mastodon.social @Cdespinosa@mastodon.social My cousin held the contract to clean Broderbund's office, so one year when I visited him in CA he brought me over after hours, and I got to play Lode Runner on their tabletop console. Now I wish I had enough time to get a high score, but I did not! They had a room full of Apple ][s, each with many 5 1/4" floppy drives for copying. So cool!

>Capitalism doesn’t care about aesthetics. Bitcoins in and of themselves in no way offer any pleasure to any human.
Disagree. I think wealth is extremely attractive (aesthetic) to capitalists -- and to most people, who love the idea of either being wealthy or being able to spend money on whatever they want.
>Capitalism doesn’t care about utility; the fact that you can’t actually use Bitcoins for anything is apparently irrelevant.
That's shortsighted. You can use Bitcoins to make yourself feel wealthy, and interested parties consider you smart & wealthy/valuable. And you can spend on *some* things, including darknet drugs & ransomware payoffs.
>Are Bitcoins dangerous? · Not existentially.
As a cause of greenhouse gasses, Bitcoin is bad. An incentive for rampant capitalists to be anti-sustainability, making it an even more contentious political hot potato, might be worse over the long term. Fighting the oil industry sucked. If the tech and banking industries, as well as every wannabe rich guy/crytobro, join their side, that sucks.
