Privacy Badger version 2026.2.20 improves tracker blocking in Chrome and Chromium-based browsers.

Before this update, Privacy Badger sometimes failed to block domains that should have been blocked, and blocked domains that should have been ignored. This was caused by a long-known limitation of Google's Manifest V3, recently fixed by an outside contributor. [*]

@mlody@fabrykajabo.li The two extensions work well together.

Privacy Badger is different: not an ad blocker (does not use ad blocker lists), comes with own special features (widget replacement), made by a non-profit, fights for a better web.

@UPPERKEES@mastodon.social @eff@mastodon.social You may like PB’s widget replacement feature that blocks embedded tweets (for example) and replaces them with “click to activate” placeholders. We’re working on other special features. @chessert@mastodon.online @futurebird@sauropods.win @billiglarper@rollenspiel.social PB is not an ad blocker. YouTube doesn’t load “third party” (non-Google) domains to show ads.

@thoralf@soc.umrath.net @eff@mastodon.social If you use Safari, we are working on a version of Privacy Badger for Safari on macOS. It’s not a straightforward port because of bugs and divergences in behavior from Firefox and Chrome.

@dmarti@federate.social @Distante@mastodon.social @eff@mastodon.social Since Privacy Badger is not an ad blocker, it does not do anything about ads on websites that do not use third-party trackers. If malicious search ads are a concern, I suggest adding a reputable ad blocker such as uBlock Origin.

@KoruLikesManga@sakurajima.moe @eff@mastodon.social Do you want to reduce your exposure to trackers that follow you from site to site, or are you looking to bypass a specific site's fraud protections? If you're not looking to cheat at online poker, Privacy Badger blocks many known fingerprinters.

Also, while PB works well with an ad blocker, PB is different. PB uses different lists from ad blockers, and comes with own features ad blockers don't have.

@mossyrua@mastodon.ie @eff@mastodon.social We are working on a version of Privacy Badger for Safari on macOS. It’s not a straightforward port because of bugs and divergences in behavior from Firefox and Chrome.

Unfortunately, Safari for iOS is more challenging to support still. We will look into it after we finish with Safari for macOS.

In the meantime, I suggest installing a reputable "content blocker" for iOS Safari.

@SomeAnoTooter@mastodon.online @eff@mastodon.social Any setting or extension that affects websites' contents or how you look to websites is additional entropy that can be used as part of a fingerprint, that is true. However, unless your goal is to cheat at online poker or something like that, you should be more concerned about trackers that follow you around the web, whether they use fingerprinting or other kinds of tracking. Privacy Badger detects a common fingerprinting technique and learns to block fingerprinter domains.
