There is a feeling you sometimes get as a pedestrian that some cyclists, usually the ones wearing lycra, have learned a "might is right" mentality from car drivers and see themselves as higher in the food chain than pedestrians. I've lost count of the amount of times I've nearly been mown down by these clowns. So the bell is appreciated, even if unexpected sounds can be startling.

I don't know why I bothered posting that, people don't care, the moral vacuity of campism* has taken over.
*I use the term somewhat ironically knowing that the people who usually bandy it about, invariably against peace campaigners, will claim they aren't part of any camp while functionally always being NATO aligned.

I think you're being a bit naive about it, they could cause more than just "a fright" if they hit someone, as for cyclist's reputations, I hardly think that something as frivolous as that matters. Frankly I think you're making excuses to minimise poor behaviour, exactly like car drivers do.

The rarity is irrelevant, you clearly are treating it without the due concern that you're required to under the rules of the road in exactly the same "might is right" manner that car drivers do. If anyone is giving cyclists a bad reputation here it's you. The sensible thing would be to take the concerns of pedestrians seriously, if you're not willing to do that then you deserve a poor reputation.

Has it every occurred to you that you're doing nothing here to improve the reputation of cyclists that you seem to think is under threat. All I've done is voice how I feel as a pedestrian (and for the record I don't own a car so you can't use that angle), you could respond to that with dignity rather than conspiratorially looking for a fight. We're not mutuals, you didn't need to stick your oar in. You will now be muted.
Quite like this one, I'd swear they've gotten used to me pointing the camera at them.
