@mttaggart@infosec.exchange And they aren't secretive about these techniques - by that I mean, it's not "just the tech savvy kids". At least in my daughter's middle school, the techies seem to thrive on getting as many non tech kids to bypass the school restrictions as possible. My 7th grader is clever, but in no way tech adept. She comes home and shares with me a new way to get unfettered Internet access at school maybe every other week.

(Aside: I joke, because she'd never without asking. But as the guy usually holding the leash of a dog who Does Not Like Strangers, I always appreciate hesitance and permission asking) Whoa, long ramble there.

What's up with the weird word by word pseudo-typing way that "AI" responses appear on the screen?

It's as if the design is aiming to make it seem more human than previous generation chatbots, and yet that's not how replies appear *in any other context*.

What's up with that?

@futurebird@sauropods.win As someone whose girls were aberrations and excelled during shutdown, I maintain the cost was much too high. Especially in the current environment when basement grades and social promotions are the norm, remote learning fails far more students and teachers than it possibly benefits.

What's everyone's favorite/recommended hardware streaming device?

Leaning towards a #Roku offering, but really they're all in the mix right now.

the builtin streaming apps on the Vizio TV are unusable, & I'm hoping to make this switch to #YouTubeTV less awful.

(And before you advise me not to stream my broadcast TV - I agree with you in principle. In practice, my options are not good and this is the way we're going.)

I'm not suggesting these things change, but I've had to explain the concept of square disks twice this school year alone. If that's staying, then clicking it had better create a local file.
