We keep hearing from developers despairing when their employers mandate the use of genAI. I want to hear that that’s not the only story out there. Tell me instead of those companies which reject genAI and continue to use and develop the human brain.

Related, does anyone know how you'd obtain and run something like the iNaturalist image classification model locally? It's an area of tech I've never really got into, and it seems to be harder to discover now LLMs are sucking all the air out of the AI space (not to mention screwing up web search & cluttering the internet with trash)

@deedo@mastodon.nl I think that to try to distill the tens of thousands of words I've read or heard on this topic into individual references would be a nightmare, and if I do a partial job of it it's worse than doing none at all. I'm not sure I can do it in a practical timescale.
Also, snarkily, boosters never seem to feel the need to cite sources, and I'm reluctant to do the "order of magnitude more work" (per Brandolini's Law) that they consider unnecessary.
