Donaueschinger Musiktage, Festival Musica Strasbourg & Kunstverein Global Forest invite sound artists to apply for a residency in St. Georgen im Schwarzwald.

The residency includes:
✨ 3–4 month stay (can be split into two parts)
✨ Rent-free living & studio space
✨ €15,000 honorarium (incl. teaching)
✨ Production budget up to €10,000
✨ Presentation of the sound installation at Donaueschinger Musiktage 2026 + Festival Musica Strasbourg
✨ Mentoring HEAR Strasbourg students in workshops

"Fragile Stability / Stable Fragility" (2026)
Memory game with sound modules (self-built) | various electronic components, sound recordings by the exhibition participants, table, stool and carpet | ⌀ 300 x 90 cm

The work, developed specifically for the exhibition “Only the Lonely – Sole Interaction”, brings together the participants’ different perspectives in a collective sound memory.

It operates like a classic memory game: instead of matching identical images, players search for corresponding pairs of sounds, which are activated via small sound modules and become audible the moment they are lifted.

In the game, unexpected encounters emerge between sounds, as well as between different experiences and interpretations of loneliness and solitude.

Visitors can discover a spectrum ranging from loneliness as an experience of deprivation or distance, as well as the uncertainty of an artistic process bound solely to the self, to solitude as a state of concentration, retreat and artistic openness.

Loneliness and solitude are thus portrayed as an interplay between loss and productivity, between isolation and connection – stable yet fragile states that cannot be rigidly defined and keep us in motion.

"Endrohrkissen" (Tailpipe cushions) shift the focus of the exhibition "Endrohr Apokalypse" at the Kunstverein Ingolstadt to calm and devotion.

The cushions draw on forms and materials from automotive interiors and are presented like devotional objects.

With over 10,000 cross-stitches, the self-made objects evoke the structure of a rosary – a contemplative practice of repetition, patience, and physical exertion.

Düsen nach Jägerart (Dreifaltigkeit)

Drei besessene Chefsessel drehen sich um sich selbst und ziehen ihre Bahnen. Der Kreis symbolisiert einen paradiesischen Zustand der Vollkommenheit, den Kepler nicht aufrechterhalten konnte, während die elliptische Umlaufbahn der Erde um die Sonne die erste „Kränkung“ der Menschheit einleitete.

Die Arbeit war Teil der Ausstellung Endrohr Apokalypse im Kunstverein Ingolstadt (22. Nov 2025 – 21. Jan 2026).

Die Arbeit „Kinetic Fart (Bewegungspfad Ungestüm)” markiert am Eingang der Ausstellung „Endrohr Apokalypse” den Anfang.
Engelartige Boten schweben im Raum und erzeugen eine liturgische Stimmung zwischen himmlischen Weihrauchwolken und irdischen Auto-Duftbäumen. Als unwegige Beweger fungieren diese programmierten Raumerfrischer wie Zwischenwesen, die zugleich an sakrale Rauchzeichen und an die aromatisierte Gegenwart des Autointerieurs erinnern.
In ihrer schwebenden Unbestimmtheit knüpfen sie an den archetypischen Startpunkt für Ordnungssysteme an, über dem die Frage nach der Stellung des Menschen im Kosmos zwischen Duftwolke, Auspuffästhetik und ritueller Atmosphäre schwebt.

Rīdeō, ergo sum – I laugh, therefore I am (Preungesheim Edition)
Memory game with custom-built sound modules | various electronics, recordings of residents’ laughter | 100 x 100 cm

Created during his residency in the Fliegendes Künstler:innenzimmer (FlieKü) of the Crespo Foundation, Olsen’s work explores a simple yet profound question: What does a neighbourhood sound like if you only hear its laughter?

Armed with a microphone and ice cream vouchers, Olsen ventured through the parks, streets, courtyards, and local institutions of Preungesheim. Along the way, he collected the laughter of children, couples on park benches, a laughter yoga group, and even a former BMX champion from the 1980s.

The result is an interactive memory game: each module flip triggers a unique laughter sound bringing the community to life in playful, unexpected ways.

Special thanks to the Crespo Foundation, the FlieKü team, and everyone who laughed, contributed, or simply visited the exhibition.

Endrohr Apokalypse – solo exhibition at Kunstverein Ingolstadt.

Within the brutalist architecture of the Stadttheater, the exhibition unfolds a scenario oscillating between sacrality and technical high-fidelity.

With site-specific works created especially for this setting, the exhibition explores the parallels between technology and theology.

The room’s seven supporting columns become carriers of a parallel shift between the Bamberg Apocalypse and the automotive city of Ingolstadt. seven tailpipes from the car tuning scene – from four-flow to duplex to Y-pipes – resound with the sounds of bodybuilders straining and lifting weights: a resonance chamber of strength, exhaustion, and faith in progress.
The works deal with technology as an effort to save effort. But they also refer to the efforts of the art and culture scene, which is reaching its limits in the face of budget cuts. As a result of the crisis in the automotive industry and reduced municipal funding, a cultural institution that was once a symbol of the city's spirit of upward momentum is coming to a standstill: after the exhibition, the Kunstverein's premises will remain closed until further notice.

The exhibition reflects on the self-inflicted consequences of modern hubris, the belief in progress, and the exhaustion of a society that produces its own revelations.

The countdown for Endrohr Apokalypse is on!

The seven pillars of the brutalistic exhibition space are occupied by the Tailpipe Candelabrums (Formation Endrohr Apokalypse): tailpipes from the local tuning scene replace the seven trumpets of the Bamberg Apocalypse. From them unfold the sounds of trained bodies under extreme stress – soundscape that intertwines physical optimization, technical intensification and sacred proclamation.

With works created especially for the exhibition, the show explores parallels between technology and theology: from ritualised practices and promises of salvation to the question of how technical systems are increasingly taking on functions that were previously reserved for religious orders.

Endrohrmemory (tailpipe memory) is a collection of the heartbeat of the Ingolstadt tuning scene. Exhaust coughs, acceleration rhythms and unmistakable sound impressions become pairs that seek each other, lose each other and find each other again.

Laid out like communion wafers, the sound modules wait to be touched and recognised. What begins as a game becomes a ritual: sound is shared, incorporated, remembered. An acoustic archive of acceleration, driving artistry and speed. Between workshop, parking lot, and exhibition space, a collective memory emerges—where engine sound becomes a form of confession.

Die Arbeit „Wie groß ist Walter Röhrls Vorsprung durch Technik wirklich“ empfängt die Besucher*innen am Eingang der Ausstellung „Endrohr Apokalypse“ wie ein technisches Taufbecken.

Der einst von Rally-Ikone Walter Röhrl verkörperte „Vorsprung durch Technik“ – Sinnbild für Präzision, Kontrolle und den Pioniergeist der Audi-Ära – wirkt heute wie ein Relikt aus einer analogen Heldenzeit. Doch auch die Technologieversprechen von morgen kennen keinen Mangel an Fortschrittsrhetorik: Während Röhrl seinen Vorsprung noch durch fahrerisches Feingefühl und technische Überlegenheit gewann, treibt Künstliche Intelligenz den Fortschritt nun algorithmisch vor sich her.
Als vermeintliche Schlüsseltechnologie der Zukunft verspricht KI eine Welt zunehmender Messbarkeit, Präzision und problemlösender Effizienz. Glaubt man ihren kühnsten Propheten, wird die Aufholjagd bald beendet sein – und mit ihr sämtliche Gegenwartsprobleme. Bis zu dieser Stunde Null wird, ähnlich wie einst bei Röhrl, der „Vorsprung durch Technik“ immer wieder neu definiert: nicht mehr auf der Straße, sondern im Datenraum zwischen Nullen und Einsen.

Wie klingts eigentlich, wenn man alle zugleich reinhaut (Vierknopftypus per Fernbedienung)

Die interaktive Arbeit greift das Motiv von Kreuzigung und Wiederbelebung auf. Eine nachrüstbare Zentralverriegelung, jahrelang auf dem Dachboden des Künstlers gelagert, wird auf das Kreuz genommen: Über eine Fernbedienung können alle vier Knöpfe gleichzeitig ausgelöst werden.

Der Moment zwischen Stillstand und Aktivierung, zwischen Exitus und technischem Erwachen hat eine literarische Parallele zum Ausstellungsort Ingolstadt, damals eine katholische Glaubensfestung: In Mary Shelleys Roman Frankenstein bringt der Student Victor Frankenstein während seiner Zeit an der Universität Ingolstadt mit Hilfe von Elektrizität eine Kreatur zum Leben.

Zwischen Kreuzigung und künstlicher Belebung verhandelt die Arbeit Fragen von Handlungsmacht, Kontrolle und der Aktualisierung sakraler Motive durch Technologie.
