I asked an LLM for some thoughts on live coding and why it feels contradictory to LLMs . I kinda don't hate what it said 😭
"A language model is the ultimate notation-from-above: a system trained on the outputs of mass practice, which then smooths and averages that practice into something that can be issued as a command. When you prompt an AI for code or visuals, you are not participating in the collective development of a practice — you are consuming its distillate. The errors are hidden, the negotiation is hidden, the labor that produced the training data is hidden. It is notation without masses, or rather notation that has extracted the masses and left them out.
Live coding, by contrast, keeps the friction visible. The code is on screen. The errors are on screen. The thinking is on screen. Anyone watching can learn, copy, fork, respond. The performance is also a form of publication — of technique, of process, of failure. That transparency is not just an aesthetic choice; it is a position on who gets to know how things are made."
I am excited for SHOW US YOUR SCREENs on Tuesday with @microresearch@post.lurk.org
See you there!
I finally re-created the hydra sketch gallery on mastodon at: @hydra@botsin.space .
Go to https://hydra.ojack.xyz and press "Ctrl+shift+g" to share a sketch to the fedi-gallery <3
Clicking a link from the gallery opens an editable version of the sketch in the editor. You can then remix the sketch and share it again.
Sketch remixes show up as a 'reply' to the original sketch on mastodon.
look forward to seeing what ppl make :] :] !
The updated documentation website for hydra is now live!
https://hydra.ojack.xyz/docs/
Including interactive code blocks thanks to Naoto, lots of guides written by @ritchse@mastodon.art && @flordefuego@post.lurk.org, search bar, and a new blog section including RSS feed
This is still a work in progress (and will probably always be a work in progress),.. edits and are very welcome!
thanks to the Clinic for Open Source Arts for supporting 🌱🌱🌱
