The wifi password for this coffee shop is "TakeYourPhoneZoomCallsOutside" and I think I'm in love with a retail establishment.

Dear Restaurant Whose Website Is A Facebook or Insta Page,
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha no.
Love, me
I'm a government contractor. My job is full of crazy bureaucracy and process. But, you know what -- THIS IS GOOD!
Over 35mil people depend on the systems I support for their health care. They contain sensitive personal information that needs to be protected. And they are critical systems that need to be reliable and correct.
"DOGE Engineering" may be fine for Twitter. But not the US Government. Our government systems and services need to run at much higher standards than what Musk wants for Twitter.
Stuff I pay to host:
* Email - https://www.fastmail.com
* DNS - https://www.cloudns.net
* Backup Storage - https://www.rsync.net
* File Sync - https://mega.nz
I'm satisfied with all.
Yeah, I do the #selfHosted thing. But it really is worth it for me to outsource these items.
I've had a long standing Quantum Fiber issue that needed technical support -- but I've put it off for (literally) months because I've dreaded having to call them.
I finally did it today and -- guess what -- it actually was a pretty good call. They fixed my problem.
If you're an ally, now would be a great time to add pronouns to all your profiles, if you haven't already.
It's being reported that government workers are being forced to remove pronouns from signatures. It's more than that -- systems are being updated to remove pronouns.
Pronouns are an important part of identity. Let's normalize that, and fight erasure.

As soon as I send this message, I will initiate transfer to @courtney@pdx.social. Hope to see you on the other side!
Got this scam letter today. If only there was a government agency that protected us against financial fraud. Like a "Consumer Financial Protection Agency". Or something like that. Wouldn't that be grand?
Me too, flower. Me too.
I'm having major connectivity issues at this coffee shop. I thought it was DNS -- but this time it wasn't DNS!!
Turns out the WiFi is assigning IPv6 addresses but not IPv4, and there are still large portions of the net that exist only on IPv4.
It's interesting seeing how much the world STILL isn't ready for IPv6.
I'm planning to move from hachyderm.io to pdx.social this weekend, maybe later tonight. Nothing wrong with Hachyderm, them's awesome people. Just want to join in with the local community.
Dear person doing reporting on trans issues, published on Substack,
What the fuck? What the ACTUAL fuck!
(yes, this is a subtoot)
When they said "run government like a business", I don't think they meant "disrespect and abuse your staff."
... or maybe they did?
Hey #austin #civicTech people. Open Austin has a need for a volunteer back-end developer for a project.
I'm super sad that the Bob's Red Mill restaurant and store is closing. My last visit there was only a couple weeks ago.
How to identify a Substack-hosted site.
Try, in order:
1. See if domain name ends in "substack.com"
2. See if domain name is a CNAME for target.substack-custom-domains.com.
$ host -tcname www.londoncentric.media
www.londoncentric.media is an alias for target.substack-custom-domains.com.
3. Do a HEAD and look for "x-served-by".
$ curl --head -s xhttps://sinocism.com/ | grep '^x-served-by:'
x-served-by: Substack
(Link munged to avoid preview.)
Now, just need to encapsulate this logic into a browser plugin ...
