There, I fixed it. (The buttons are virtual. They can always face the correct direction.)

@occult@vox.ominous.net I just wish people wouldn’t act like clicking the like button makes your dick fall off

Crepe Myrtle trees tossing in the breeze in the parking lot behind Infinite Loop building four.

If you liked Paul Murray’s 2023 The Bee Sting or Tana French’s In the Woods (2007) this is… similar, but completely different (all three are excellent in different ways.) Both French and Harper explore the idea of “What if a detective returns to their childhood community where something awful happened to them as children?”

I worked remotely for the first year. We sold our home of 20 years in Gurnee, Illinois and moved in 2021 so our kid could graduate from Cupertino High School.

@octothorpe@mastodon.online @drahardja@sfba.social wrong piece of trash, for starters

In the living room the voice-clock sang, Tick-tock, seven o’clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o’clock! As if it were afraid that nobody would. Seven-nine, breakfast time, seven-nine! In the kitchen the breakfast stove ejected eight pieces of perfectly browned toast, eight eggs sunnyside up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cool glasses of milk. “Today is August 4, 2026, the city of Allendale, California.” Somewhere in the walls, relays clicked, memory tapes glided under electric eyes. “”Eight-one, tick-tock, eight-one o’clock, off to school, off to work, run, run, eight-one!” But no doors slammed. It was raining outside. The weather box on the front door sang quietly: “Rain, rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today…” Outside, the garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. After a long wait the door swung down again.

I’m not a cat person but now I kind of want one? https://moderncat.com/articles/breeds/japanese-bobtail/

@occult@vox.ominous.net oof

@octothorpe@mastodon.online we have ice cream!

@drahardja@sfba.social those stickers drive me crazy lol

I thought I’d never get into “retrocomputing” but realized I have no way of opening a bunch of files from let late 90’s otherwise

My ambitious goal is to make it through today.

Tomorrow is Bandcamp Friday. I am not ready.

“hardware giveth, and software taketh away”

@sdarlington@mas.to I’ll do it, or die trying

When I’m absorbed in my work there’s a steady stream of swearing 🙉

Best YouTuber comment on Amazon’s Blade Runner trailer: “6 episodes end on a cliffhanger won’t get a second season, it’s the Amazon way.”

It is unclear to me why a physically out-of-print book should command such a premium price in ebook form.

@josevazquez@hachyderm.io I’m renting forever if that helps haha

Ejiofor was mesmerizing as The Operative in Firefly, and one of the reasons I enjoyed the audiobook version of Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi.

Don’t get me wrong, Dungeon Crawler Carl is fun and all, but a well-written novel, that’s a fine meal. And a mystery, done right, adds a layer of puzzle-solving and motivation that I prefer over mainstream non-drama novels that are so popular today (looking at you, Ann Pachet’s Whistler, ugh, DNF)

@tritchey@hachyderm.io thank you… I laughed out loud

@carnage4life@mas.to at least security has been terrible under his watch

Pull request incoming

Never forget https://screenrant.com/prime-video-the-peripheral-sci-fi-masterpiece-binge/

@mnl@hachyderm.io you started reading them 😆 this looks like https://becoming.press/christian-eschatology-of-artificial-intelligence

@josevazquez@hachyderm.io every team is different! I met one guy who applied dozens and dozens of times. He found a spot.

Sweeping Promises released a new album (it’s in stereo this time!) after signing to Sub Pop and they’re on tour. “The San Francisco date was Friday, September 18 at the Rickshaw Stop, so you just missed it,” 😩 https://sweepingpromises.bandcamp.com/track/accent

And now, a moment of Zen from the American Midwest

@octothorpe@mastodon.online it’s not even as expensive as I’d feared lol

I was today years old when I realized 豚骨ラーメン was tonKOtsu ramen and not tonKAtsu ramen. There’s a handful of Japanese words I’ve only ever heard or spoken and never read before.

@bruienne@infosec.exchange but that’s Netflix, nobody expects them to finish anything. I’m still surprised they managed to port over all of Dark haha
