Ooo, I missed this, my first #GlobalTalk #marchintosh print on the HP.

Thanks @smallsco@oldbytes.space

Slowly developing a visualisation tool for #GlobalTalk

I'm making use of Netatalk's tools to query the network and parse the results into a big JSON file using Python, which hopefully I can do some nice viz with D3 or something.

First dump of the data is available on nas-afp@Doofnet in the Dropbox folder, for anyone interested.

I do enjoy the blasé instructions for the Paperlike screen protector

"See bubbles starting to form? No sweat"

I'm sorry, what part of my ADHD is going to allow even the smallest of bubble or the slight misalignment of the protector?

The #37C3 stream is up with the talk by Dragon Sector ( @q3k@social.hackerspace.pl, @redford@infosec.exchange , and @mrtick@infosec.exchange) regarding the DRM'd trains. Fascinating stuff!

[Edit: updated link to the cut version, rather than the raw stream]

@ross@fosstodon.org I had one of the earlier models of this printer in my woodwork shop to print out orders. Even when absolutely caked in sawdust it still worked perfectly (with a slight burning smell). I use a HP Laserjet at home, but if this one ever dies my next will be a Brother HL. I love that this is a yearly thing now: https://www.theverge.com/23642073/best-printer-2023-brother-laser-wi-fi-its-fine

Do you really want to think any more about printers than this?

With all the issues with O365 recently, i'm thinking of going back to self hosting my emails again.

As a coincidence, HN has a post about Mox, which is a all-in-one Golang mailserver that supports modern standards.

https://www.xmox.nl/features/

Saves a lot of pain of Postfix/Courier/OpenDKIM and some sort of spam checking...

I was wondering why my NAS hasn't had any files or prints from #globaltalk and it seems its only visible on Appletalk when i'm running tcpdump, which keeps the interface in promiscuous mode.

....huh?

Now, the next quest.

A Zebra GK420d, CUPS, Netatalk, and a G4 PowerMac running OS9...

Note to self: AppleTalk/RMTP/DDP doesn't work nicely with firewalld - and it explains why things half-work.

Well, my home network is now finally on #globaltalk using jrouter!

@cablespaghetti@blahaj.social A quick Google seems to indicate that worse comes to worse its desoldering a SOP8 on the card, or using a pair of tweezers to short the power pin on it at boot so it starts the GPU up in a default mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzQQcNw24EM

How to unbrick RX580 XFX edition with "paperclip method".

Well, an attempted migration of the Mastodon PostgreSQL DB from a hand managed version to CloudNativePG went well...

After two import attempts pg_restore failed with errors, fun.

I love seeing some of the blatant shilling on some Reddit threads.

"I'm a tech journalist who has been testing this bag for weeks, AMA"

Random: "Is it worth the $600 price tag"
Journo: "Yes, it is because of the lifetime warranty!"

The warranty in question says they wont replace for "Failures or breakages due to misuse, neglect, accidents, or intentional damage"

Its a suitcase, oh, the luggage handler threw your bag around? Too bad, so sad.

@cablespaghetti@blahaj.social Strangely, it takes quite a bit to kill ATI/AMD cards by flashing them. I've been abusing an old Radeon 9200 and it seems to always be available for software flashing. I wouldn't be surprised if its the same.
