I just woke from a dream where I was chasing a racoon (meerkat?) around a messy room for what felt like hours. It was oddly intriguing, the behaviors of a (hypothetical) meerkat, its little teeth nibbling on my fingers, with beady eyes and scraggly hairs, as it pounced around, corner to corner, between piles of my clothes. The few times it did land back into its own cage, I had misplaced the cage door to finish the job and would instead be holding up ill fitted planks in its stead, through which nooks the racoon would squeeze back out and begin the saga all over again. (Just utterly poor coordination on my part). The doorbell rings and an initial three guests, one friend from college and another two I was meeting for the first time, arrive to my dinner party, none other than a potluck for which I prepared nothing for. If I recall, a dozen others were to follow. I wasn't panicked per se (I've long passed that) but did eye the mashed potatoes the girl was holding, which smelled delicious, and attempted to use the racoon as an excuse; luckily my sister had been making a soup. Ironically, I woke up to my own endeavors cooking from last night which included a wonderful chicken soup and curry on the side, still left on my table with the mark of a sole bite taken before at some point I had fallen asleep.
