Very curious ads that made it past my ad blocker (those terrible ones on a German news site that always look like a scam). Couldn't find out where they link to unfortunately.

RE: https://stefanbohacek.online/@stefan/116117369092128169

I got quite tired with the AI criticism recently. Not that I think it's wrong (most of it isn't), it just feels like the same story over and over again. Then I was quite surprised how much people cared what Doctorow wrote about using AI.

But then I see articles like this and I wonder if maybe it's working out: perhaps if everybody keeps pointing out all the flaws, negative externalities, insane statements, questionable investment structures, [complete list left as an exercise to the reader] and posts about it all the time, there will be tangible effects of a negative public sentiment.

So, keep complaining everybody, I guess?

@doriane Media art, mostly installations. Things that exist off grants/stipends and are shown mostly in institutional contexts and festivals. (Or that's where I'm trying to get to at least.) I think the B2B interactions there are mostly creating awareness for your work among art world professionals (curators, possible jury members, fellow artists – generating leads to put it in business speech, I guess) and being aware of opportunities (not happening for me with Instagram for now because I try to not interact manually and haven't built a content-extraction pipeline yet – will do so soon though). I actually think it might be easier for some of the B2C type to switch in some sense: if you cater a niche that is infrastructure-aware and thus possibly willing to switch (if it hasn't done so already), you might even have an easier time not fighting with platforms that gear their feed towards ad impressions. Just speculating though. Whereas I think that the professionals I listed above are highly unlikely to switch – partially out of network effects and, IMHO, just not actually caring about infrastructure. A lot of art world people don't care and even in the more media/tech bubble a lot of people are very open to web3/AI/hype.

@doriane I think there is a big difference whether artists sell/somehow financially live off B2C or if it's a B2B strategy. My Instagram activity falls entirely into the latter category, so as long as the remaining art world sticks to the platform it doesn't matter much whether non-artists leave.

Looking for a software recommendation:
In my experience pdf.js (as bundled in Firefox and its derivatives) now outperforms my native PDF viewer (evince) and other Linux-compatible PDF editing tools (shout out to PDF Arranger and RNote) in some ways. But I'd like it to feel more like a standalone PDF viewer/editor app, not a tab between the hundreds of tabs.

Is there any wrapper/standalone version of pdf.js that can easily be installed on Linux?
