Alternative browsers are threaten to apple closed platform as they can implement things like:

WebUSB - allowing webpages to use USB devices
WebMIDI - music devices support
Open codecs (like AV1)
Notifications
Real PWA - allowing developers to create web applications that works like native.

At the moment all browsers use WebKit engine developed by Apple, which is, on purpose, stripped with functionalities that compete with native app development.

Two years has passed with DMA, and there is still no real alternative browser on iOS... https://open-web-advocacy.org/ja/blog/question-and-answer-with-simonetta-vezzoso--the-open-web--apple-and-the-dma/

Replying to

@_inside I wish we could release iOS apps outside App Store. It's a pity one can't do app for family & friends or open source without all the burden or after an app was sherlocked…

#lobsters #it Maybe I have someone in my connections that will want to invite me to lobster.rs community. I'm following the site for couple of years, and watching how Hacker News is turning into a AI-slop tube I see that lobsters is a lot saner and calmer community I will be glad to join. I would like to comment sometimes (I';m rather quiet person) and have possibility to vote for posts
