The Osher Map Library, at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, is home to half a million rare maps, globes and atlases, dating as far back as the 15th century. Correspondent Martha Teichner explores the world as depicted by cartographers, through maps that are whimsical, political, or intentionally distorted, and examines why – in an age of GPS – maps are definitely not outdated.

@pinakographos this is cool - you now have a bit of room to squeeze in the Presumpscot, between the Saco and the Kennebec, so you could get Portland on the map!!

@cstross to deinstall chrome on macOS, is it really as simple as dragging the app into the trash? (As I did) Does one also need to go and explicitly root out the LLM crap too?

@cstross thanks! I've done that, didn't find the 4gb file, but then I haven't used Chrome recently (moved to Vivaldi) but did find other odd Google crap that I deleted; I also searched hidden files just in case ... now I'm trying to get to a point to delete all MS products off my Macs!
