@fox@social.hostnetwork.xyz @mcaputo@social.sunet.uk the DDNS way isn't a dumb idea, it's actually great if you can't get a static IP. I personally used DuckDNS for a long time for my homeserver. The problem with it is you have to rely on an external service for your server. I personally was locked out of my server more than once due to DuckDNS outages. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing free service, and it's normal for it to have outages. The point is, in my opinion, if you have the chance to get a static IP, than that's 100 times better than any DDNS/Tunnels setup you can have. These setups are workarounds for dynamic IPs or closed NATs. You don't rely on any external service. Anyways, it's a Cloudflare Proxy hater that's talking here, so it's veru subjective, but I'm pretty sure a static IP + port opening + regular DNS is way better than any DDNS or Tunnel service up there.

@TheZupZup@mastodon.social A few other things:

  • I'm listening to #darksideofthemoon, an album that's mostly enjoyed without breaks between tracks. Even if I saved them all for offline play, Linthra causes a very small delay between tracks, if you could make it more seamless it'd be amazing
  • In my setup, I'm using Yubal (https://github.com/guillevc/yubal) to download tracks to my Navidrome server. You basically paste a YTM URL and it downloads the playlist or track with yt-dlp, then organizes it with beets. It has a browser extension too that quickly allows you to start a download job from a YTM page, so I assume it has an API. It would be really cool to integrate it in the app, e.g., by having a section that simply allows to paste a YTM URL and sends the download to a configured Yubal instance, maybe showing the progress too. Shouldn't be too much of a challenge I think, and it would be a great addition for users like me that rely on it. Still, it's is a pretty personal request to be fair
  • I know it's an early beta and it's not the main concern, but some theming or customization options would be cool in the future
  • Home screen widget when?? (Again, cool idea to implement in the future)
  • Is it cool if I keep posting these requests and bug findings here or is there a better place for me to do so? Lol

Expect a LOT of requests from me 😂

@fox@social.hostnetwork.xyz @mcaputo@social.sunet.uk Trust me, get a VPS with dynamic IP and you'll get suicidal 😭 I have a Cloudflare DDNS too (for the above reason), I was mostly referring to dedicated DDNS services like DuckDNS The selfhosted DDNS works but you cannot say that it is better than having a Dynamic IP straight up

@fox@social.hostnetwork.xyz @mcaputo@social.sunet.uk no, there is an (unofficial) Docker container that uses Cloudflare's API to update the DNS: https://github.com/favonia/cloudflare-ddns If I remember correctly though there is an official page in Cloudflare's docs talking about setting up DDNS with them and it mentions a few project like ddclient and this one I believe
