People who claim there is no engagement on Mastodon have never posted a photo of a really cute cat and it shows.
Q: Has Cato grown out of playing the fetching game yet?
A: No he has not

Cato is one year old this week! He has gained a whole pound since we got him but is still mostly all feet.

Tree peonies not kidding around, y'all. Just glorious.
Cato can sleep really, really deeply in seemingly uncomfortable spots. When I spot him like this and he does not wake up when I wiggle his feet I take the opportunity to clip all his claws.

Well at this point I am not sure I can say that I don't have a garden any more, because I have tomatoes, tomatoes, and tomatoes, tomatoes, and strawberries, and basil. Oh and dahlias! Dahlias in the middle.

Cato the new cat is a fetcher, and he's very good at it. He's even good at the "drop the ball right at my feet" part.
Only problem is that he wants to do it over and over and over and will start tapping my leg and going 'mrrpr mrrp rrrrp" if I don't keep throwing it for him.
He has also discovered the box of cat toys so if he loses one under the couch he just goes and gets another one.
(video has sound but is not critical)
Cato: Play with meeeeeee
Minna: fuck off

(there was cat wrestling before and after this photo. Minna (10 yrs) enjoys playing with Cato (1yr) as long as she always wins.)
Self-boosting (sorry) because apparently there was an attack against mastodon.social yesterday and it didn't get out.

This is Himalaya blackberry. It is invasive in the Pacific Northwest and very aggressive. But it grows these really, really tasty blackberries that make really good pie. And I'm hoping...really hoping...that we have enough of it.

I really did not realize how much anticipatory nuclear armageddon trauma I’ve been holding onto for 40 years. Gen X is not OK
Every hike I do on the trails these days is full of increasingly pretty wildflowers. Also poison oak. A lot of poison oak. 😬
This article is going around and it really is worth your time.
"But doing something like this requires you to take for granted that other people are smart, that smart people have always existed, and that very little in the human experience is new. That requires, you know, intellectual humility — and a willingness to think about other people’s experiences."

This year do I have any prepared garden beds, an irrigation system, or deer fencing for a tomato garden? No, no, and no. Since I have none of those things did I refrain from setting up my lights and seeding 28 tomato plants anyhow? Also no.

In the new house we have deer, which is not surprising. We do have a LOT of deer (several herds of 15-20), which is slightly surprising. But one of them is white, which is very surprising.
@jackwilliambell@rustedneuron.com @aosmith16@hachyderm.io We make one of these every other week or so during high cherry season. It is so good. (I have not had ready access to sour cherries until recently and am looking forward to trying them in a clafoutis)
My car apparently intends to participate in an annoying made-up drug-themed holiday
