Isn't there a Victoria? New South Wales isn't a city, neither is Tasmania, but they are places, I think they have beaches? My brain wants me to say Aukland but I'm pretty sure that's in New Zealand. And I know there's the one city that the wooden streetcars come from but I can't remember what it's called.

Cars as direct 1:1 replacements for urban horses was initially good, actually. Horses had a ton of externalities that cars solved.

It's, like, 60/40 at best. There's a "mOdEraTe" bipartisan supermajority in the state legislature.
Oh and every single major city police department in the country is entirely rogue, openly hostile to the city they work in, and staffed entirely by out of towners.
The bigger the city the more nuts and resistant to local control the police department.
The local politicians are afraid of the cops, not the other way around.

I think this might be making a distinction between north america and central or middle America.
But it's likely a convenience choice as the Mexican energy grid is mostly independent from the (multiple) US grids, while Canada and the US are heavily interconnected and coordinated. So you probably couldn't calculate this for one of the US or Canada without taking the other into account?

@nat@kind.social the environmental / carbon / petroleum cases for cloth diapers, though, above included, neglect to consider the impact of the laundering at all.
There are a number of studies on this with wildly different conclusions, depending on the exact situation studied, and while it's possible to get a net gain vs disposable, it's ludicrously easy if you're laundering at home to end up having a way bigger fossil fuel footprint washing diapers than manufacturing disposables.
Terribly, the economies of scale make the expensive bougie diaper pickup services the most environmentally friendly. And they're just unaffordable in my opinion.
This is a terrible world for us to all live in, isn't it? Every choice feels terrible. I hate all the choices I have to make daily.

I've never heard of this brand before but it says "high quality" right on there so it must be.
Walmart won't ship the store brand anymore and was sold out of the Fram, this was the next cheapest.
Interestingly, no country of origin written anywhere on the filter or its packaging. Which, if I understand applicable trade laws, means this was produced inside the US by a company with no expectation of ever exporting product. Tariffs! Bringing the important, high skill, high wage jobs home. Like manufacturing oil filters.

I think anything either south of the tropic of Cancer, or which had a Mezoamerican culture pre-colonization, is often considered central or middle America. Either definition splits mexico down the middle.
I'm a Westcoaster, you'd have to be pretty clueless to live here and not recognize a huge amount of the west used to be mexico.
But if we extend this map to include Mexico, it's all yellow for natural gas.
I don't remember the exact wording, but on NPR on the way home I swear one of the hosts used a phrase very close to "endless stream of lies" in reference to Trump statements
