Been meeting a lot of redshanks lately.
They’re really fierce birds.
I’ve seen them attack gulls, who of course is a real threat. But I also saw one attacking a tiny meadow pipit, just cause it caught an insect a bit too close to their chick who was foraging.
A bit excessive maybe. 😅

Ok, I think I need to post this birb as well.
When I spotted it I was searching for the longspur and I was so into it so I thought for sure this was a male lapland longspur. 🙈

Love having the black cap in my local park again.
Ps. Anyone else having the urge to shout: “Welcome back!” whenever you notice a new freshly migrated bird?

Omg!
I just got the news that ”our” ring-billed gull has successfully brought up two chicks together with a common gull.
This is so cool!
Here’s a link to a video about it on Facebook (with talk in Swedish and subtitles in English): https://www.facebook.com/reel/1583787073399174/

New birds in my local park today!
Blackcap, it was singing right above my head, and a couple of pied flycatchers. 🥰

Is it a rule that if you don’t bring your camera you will find really cute baby birds?
Luckily I had my phone. 😮💨

Still following the Norwegian ospreys. I’m so happy there are still three chicks!
Yr is the oldest, then Bris and Sol is the youngest.
Sure there are sibling aggression. Mainly towards Sol. But Sol is very clever and usually waits for the older siblings to eat before demanding to be fed.

@idzie@kolektiva.social Got it!
Sorry for getting it wrong.
They have a sound but in my opinion they are quite silent when they’re flying.
So if you spot a group of geese quite small, dark and silent then you should study them carefully!
(Barnacle geese on the other hand are very noisy and sounds a bit like barking small dogs.)

@idzie@kolektiva.social Yes, I think they’re called both brent and brant. English names are confusing to me sometimes. We call them prutgås.
But that’s cool you got some barnacle geese nearby as well!

@idzie@kolektiva.social I hope so too!
Do you have a lot of brent geese? They are really rare here. But I like them a lot too.

@stubacon@mastodonapp.uk This was a large group for the location. About 80 of them.
But they can easily be found in groups of several thousands not that far from here. Especially during spring and autumn. So maybe I shouldn’t have written
“big group”. 🙈
Anyway, that’s a good favourite goose! And I agree, they do look good in their monochrome colors.

@stubacon@mastodonapp.uk Yea, to be honest I don’t shout either. I don’t want to scare them. But I’ve said it a couple of times.
And thank you! 💚

That’s so cool!
I’ve started to be better at recognizing the call. But I still confuse it with the call of other birds every now and then.
The song is so much easier to recognize!

@lichtscheu@troet.cafe Oh! Still haven’t heard or seen the bluethroat.
I think they might be a week or two away. Got to be quick though cause they only pass here and they don’t stay long. If you miss them you need to wait until fall for a new chance.
