@knowmadd@mastodon.world It's interesting to see different "levels" of Gemini respond in different ways.

@camertron It is important to realize both "I paid Anthropic to write x for me" and "I made x with Claude" exist, and there is a significant difference. The former creates poor quality code and leaves you with no Theory of the Program... but it's easy. The latter is somewhere between guiding an intern and pair programming in creativity, difficulty, and time spent, but it pays off. It's the difference between https://github.com/setdef/RatatuiRuby/blob/stable/tasks/doc.rake and https://github.com/setdef/RatatuiRuby/blob/stable/tasks/bump.rake

Have you heard about the recent controversy of copyleft-washing? Some folks are making alternatives to free software and releasing them under a lax, permissive non-copyleft free software license. In order for this to be legal, it must not be a derivative work, so the publishers will often claim it is a "clean room" re-implementation.
By way of example: https://github.com/chardet/chardet/issues/327
Now somebody has packaged up that process as a delightful satire website. https://malus.sh

@camertron You're welcome, and thanks for letting me know you like it!
The more specific situation you mentioned reminds me a lot of this classic: https://nedroidcomics.tumblr.com/post/41879001445/the-internet
I am always shocked and dismayed to be reminded why Congress had to enact the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967.

@timriley FWIW, I've found providing a mix-in module to be a reasonable alternative to struggling with base class names. For example:
# frozen_string_literal: true
require "test_helper"
class TestHelloWorld < Minitest::Test
include Rooibos::TestHelper
def test_it_exits_with_ctrl_c
with_test_terminal do
inject_key(:ctrl_c)
Rooibos.run(HelloWorld)
assert true, "Should reach this point without hanging."
end
end

Wow, this spring really disappeared on me. We went straight from spring break to college visit season for the high schooler in the house, into tax season. I caught up with my email (triple digits!) and started getting back into open source, and then I got sick. Here's hoping the chaos has subsided and I can do plenty this weekend.
