@L1vY@mastodon.world greetings! Welcome! I like your name. It made me realize that I don't know who Mother Jones was. (I always confuse her with Brecht's Mother Courage.) I looked her up, and now I know. We could use someone like her or three. Our side hasn't had a media-savvy firebrand since... Gloria Steinem, maybe? And workers' rights has needed a champion or three for a while longer.
I keep hoping Zooey Zephyr will be able to leverage her notoriety and the current trans refugee crisis to elevate herself to the national stage. She'd be a great voice for equity and workers' rights if she could get on the cable news/democratic podcast circuit.
More than anything, I wish the most successful leftists lately, anarchists like Occupy Wall Street and the folks who created the CHAZ in Seattle would become more media savvy. Nobody listens to strident young men. They listen to families, like the planted interviewees at Tea Party rallies. And they listen to Leaders. The left needs leaders. Or at least orators like Mother Jones.
@charliejane@wandering.shop This Flash movie was always gonna be the big build-up to the DCEU version of Engame. I think Snyderverse fans just expected more of an "Oh snap, here comes Darkseid. Game on!" vibe and less of an... End.
I wanted Iron Man 2 to be about Tony destroying all his friendships on the way to Iron Man 3: Demon in a Bottle, but it had to carry different water. (watch the cut beginning of IM2 and tell me that's not where Favreau was going with the IM trilogy from day one)
@postmarketOS@fosstodon.org I'll just leave this here... I bet there are quite a few reddit mods that could use a chunk of $15 million

@georgetakei@universeodon.com When he was on the ski patrol in high school, my dad's goal was to still be skiing when he was 80. He taught me how to ski, and he taught my kids how to ski. And last winter my son went skiing (for the first time since 2019) with his 80-year-old grandpa.
@L1vY@mastodon.world for just a second, I thought you said "defenestration" and got unreasonably excited.
@_@ff.djw.li Thanks for the follow, all of you. Always glad to meet another We.
I commend you for your focus on local politics. More than anywhere, that is where the Other Team is kicking our ass. This gives them a crazy deep bench, and often gives niche Xtian issues altogether too much focus. I'm hoping against hope that the next big folderol is a concerted campaign against figs. That's right, you lot - Jesus hates FIGS, not the other thing. Read a Bible sometime, sheesh.
Whenever anyone even remotely progressive says they want to be more active politically, I urge them to run for school board, or work on the campaign of the most progressive school board candidate they can find.
The current trend of privatizing public education with charter schools, etc. has only one possible end result: defacto separate and unequal education. Every year, my local school district gets a little bit more like 80s Baltimore, where anyone with any money at all went to parochial school, and everyone else lived out Season 4 of The Wire.
@Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social I tried to resist. I didn't want to be rude, or whatever poetry's version of a grammar nazi is (meter maid?) but I can't help it. Lines two and three just don't scan. I can't figure out a way to make them work as written. Could I offer two alternate lines?
I am the very model of a modern Mastodonian
I boost the cats and dogs and fav'rite memes and boost them all again
(For) defederated instances I quote the fights historical
From Metas Thread to brands.town in order categorical
The best way I could think to keep "Defederated instances" was to sneak a "For" before the line, counting "For de" as one syllable. It works, somewhat. The only other way I could think to fix it was to make "Defederated instances?" a question, but that doesn't fit with the structure of the original. It's fine to mess with the classics a bit (just ask Kristy McNichol) but the closer you can keep to source, the better.
Again, apologies for butting in, but the ghosts of Gilbert, Sullivan, and campy 80s parodies made me.
@proximasan@sigmoid.social I'm wondering if the Clip Drop version of SDXL is an acceptable place to generate images for your style studies. If so, I have examples of Patrick Nagel and Tamara De Lempicka for you.
@emilygorcenski@indieweb.social Reminds me of that time the Mormons, Catholics, and Evangelicals teamed up to b̶a̶n̶ ̶g̶a̶y̶ ̶m̶a̶r̶r̶i̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶C̶a̶l̶i̶f̶o̶r̶n̶i̶a̶ legalize gay marriage nationwide.
@nellgreenfieldboyce@mastodon.social That is not reassuring. I sometimes worry about the mass surveilance devices we all carry around in our pockets, but usually forget to worry about the fact that they are tiny explosive devices as well. Thank you for reminding me.
@chargrille@progressives.social same reason unregulated charter schools and voucher systems are taking over public education and the past two generations of college graduates are going to die in debt to Sallie Mae: we love money more than children. That, and the fact that capitalism teaches us see other people as competition and/or resources to exploit. Any time someone says we need to do something "for the children," try to figure out if they really mean "because sex is scary," "because my religion validates my misogynism/racism/homophobia/transphobia/spin the wheel of hate," or just "my argument has no basis in logic so I have to appeal to emotion."
@i@ck.djw.li Any 3-letter domain is a hot property. My initials are pretty rare, but I still can't get a .xyz domain without paying a squatter $10,000. Li is available, tho.... Hmmm...
You should insist to people that it'a .il for Illinois, and then pretend to get embarrassed when you "realize the truth"
@i@ck.djw.li I'm interested in why someone from IL has a .li server. What advantages do you get from a Lichtenstein domain?
