Smoking is still categorically legal, but the list of expections when it's not allowed is ever-longer.
During my adulthood it has been banned to smoke in offices, bars, most flats, close to buildings, public transport, etc. They've also banned ads, sponsorship deals and other "exposure".
I don't think people categorically want Facebook and other social media banned. Instead they want dismantling of the social media empires, more rules when and how algorithms are used, and a way to complain cheaply and often when they're broken.
