I actually had a similar experience.
I was at a BBQ and talking to some random. We somehow got talking about my hometown, and he said that his grandfather used to live there.
Apparently, his grandfather was killed by a motorcycle outside the main supermarket.
In shock, I said, "I think I killed your grandfather!" (He had walked out drunk, a bottle of whiskey in hand and into me on my bike)
Wondering if this guy was going to punch me, he said, "Good. Our family hated that guy!"

The accident broke my jaw, leg, and the bottle of whiskey went up under my chin, through my neck and knocked out most of my teeth. I remember nothing.
His son tried to sue me 3 years later, but it was tossed out of court - The reconstruction proved I was doing less than 15 mph when he stepped in front of me.
Friendly reminder to put all current boyfriends and girlfriends at the edge of family photos so that they can easily be cropped out later.
