Hieno #PekkoKäppi keikka Roihuvuoren Hard Rock Housen sunnuntaiklubilla. Deadiakin muisteltiin ja Ripple omistettiin Bob Weirin muistolle. Musiikki elää.

Don't like much really, do I?
But what I do like I love passionately
I’ve been mostly using #Bandcamp for #streaming. Decided to give #Qobuz a try. So far seems pretty good. The app is working fine and there’s lots of options for sound quality.
Also this week I reactivated (or rebooted?) my #last.fm account. Originally registered there in 2006 and then deleted my account somewhere around 2017 or so. Pretty much the only social media site I regret leaving.
”You’re Under Arrest” by #MilesDavis
Actually pretty enjoyable and fun record. Sure very 80’s sounding but not that bad at all. Lots of wild stuff going on with the synths, #Scofield and #McLaughlin on guitars and Sting as a french policeman!
”Victorialand” by #CocteauTwins
Might be their most minimalistic and #ambient record? Well the band was basically a duo at this point in their career. Anyway, absolutely glorious stuff. The sax playing by Richard Thomas on ”Lazy Calm” is sublime.
”The Grand Wazoo” by #FrankZappa
Getting ready for the annual #FrankZappaMemorialPancakeBreakfast gig tomorrow in #helsinki. This record is of course a stone cold classic. Sublime big band jazz fusion. Hot stuff!

"Ensimmäinen matkani eli Maailman ympäri 80 päivässä" by #JeanCocteau
Cocteau was quite an interesting dude. This books is Finnish translation of Cocteau's travelogue from his trip around the world in 1936. Poetic impressions and lots of stream of consciousness style ramblings about various topics. Kind of ok I guess, but I had a surprisingly hard time finishing this. Obviously not very useful as a travel guide book.
What I’ve been reading recently

Njassalla kova putki #RadioHelsinki aamussa: Holger Czukayn ”Persian Love” ja Bowien ”A New Career In A New Town”. Täytyypä hommata tuo Czukayn levy jostain.
Watched Anne Fontaine's #film Boléro from 2024 today at the #cinema. The film is ok, a bit too long but it gets the job done. The acting is a bit serious and silly at times but never mind that. I did learn a bunch of stuff about Ravel's life and character.
The most interesting idea the film points out is how important ballet was as an art form during the early 20th century. Many significant modernist compositions (Le Sacre du printemps, L'Après-midi d'un faune etc.) were comissions for Ballets Russes productions.
”For Steve Lacy” by #EvanParker with #Birds
A sort of duet between field recordings of birdsong and Evan Parker improvising with soprano and tenor sax. On the b-side there’s also sounds of rain (I guess?), church bells etc. Really nice record.

#AkiOllikainen, ”Tattarisuon noitapiiri”
No, eipä kauheasti. Kirja on yllättävän uuvuttavaa luettavaa yksityiskohtaisuudessaan. Teos on myös kustannustoimitettu hieman huolimattomasti. Tekstissä on paljon tarpeetonta toistoa. Ihan ok yleisesitys jos Tattarisuon tapahtumat kiinnostavat.
