doing things. work: mostly in the media sector.
topics: countering disinfo, verification, media literacy.
For those dealing with graphic footage online on a frequent basis: I am currently undertaking a study with colleagues from ITI-CERTH / Greece to investigate how AI can support researchers to mitigate exposure and harm. WARNING: only participate if you feel comfortable doing so as you will be asked to view graphic images and different levels of "alienation"
As I am passionate about guarding #mentalhealth of digital investigators, not having them suffer secondary or vicarious #trauma (#PTSD), I speak (out) about it whenever possible. This is important not only in times of war, crisis and conflict.
In this article, I have put together some tips and further resources. The reason is simple: because #mentalhealthmatters! Don't learn it the hard way - take precautions and prepare accordingly. https://jospang.wordpress.com/2022/03/28/mental-well-being-of-investigators-on-the-digital-frontline/
Back again here, after some time. What's cooking?
Haven't been here for some time. Checking out what I missed and what's cooking. If you want to find me on socials: I use BlueSky more frequently. There, I'm on https://bsky.app/profile/jospang.bsky.social

Our scientific paper entitled 'Mitigating Viewer Impact From Disturbing Imagery Using AI Filters: A User-Study' has been published!
We investigated how different AI filters can be used to 'alienate' graphic imagery and, thereby, potentially reduce mental harm for those who are exposed to such material. At the same time, we wanted to still make it possible for viewers to get some sense of what an image is about.
