"Do we have too many international students?"
Stand back and look at that question. What you're asking is, is it a bad thing that smart young people come to our country, study and innovate and add to our research output.
You're asking if we should have fewer smart people in our country. #NationalForum
No, no, and furthermore, no. I will not stay at this place ever again and would advise literally any sentient being to avoid it.

Inflation is not going down. Continuously raising interest rates *won't help that*.
Attending my first graduation ceremony in nearly 30 years.
There is NO SUCH THING as a "kill button" for AI. Open weight models operate on private machines. #Insiders

There is literally no relationship between the way algorithms work and the concept of freedom of speech.
But honestly, social media is just not as important as artificial intelligence right now. Politicians are sleepwalking into a disaster that makes social media seem like a fight in the local playground. #Insiders
Teachers are experiencing more violence than ever. Parents are the problem. #Insiders

Latest Lex Fridman podcast is 5 hours and 22 minutes long.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: what's needed in the age of AI is EDITING SKILLS.
I so need this weekend.
Good luck on fuel security. While the Orange Chaos Monkey is in the Colorless Abode, then the likelihood of any kind of security is challenged. #Insiders

@Heliograph@mastodon.au @joannaholman@aus.social oh I like it better when they go for something a little stronger.
The Victorian Labor Party doesn't seem to understand that it isn't the leadership that will lose the next state election, but rather the appearance of disunity. Worse still, it will likely mean they lose to One Nation. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-26/victoria-premier-jacinta-allan-leadership-challenge/106960114
For the last couple of years I've been part of Australia's flu tracking research. They need more people to be part of the process. It means every Monday you get an email, you click two buttons and you're done. Please join the initiative: https://www.flutracking.net/Join/AE/inv264
Stunning red dawn in Melbourne
Received my formal certificate and another qualification for me!
A heat pump dryer is a thing of beauty. No steam, no heat, ridiculously efficient from an energy perspective, and makes the weather totally irrelevant. I ❤️ mine.
This is brilliant news. I would be happy for feral cats to be entirely culled to favour our little devils. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-28/cat-trapping-northern-tasmania-devil-population-increase/106813282
Watching one of the most underrated sci-fi films of all time, District 9.
My hands have got inflamed again. I really must not touch plants.
Landed. At the right place. Thank goodness.
First leg of the journey home. In the carriage and seated with 2 mins to spare. Glen Waverley station looks rather different even from a week ago.
Boarded my replacement flight. Let's hope I get home this time.
Landed safely but not at home. Back in Melbourne due to fog in Launceston. It's going to be a long night. *Sigh*
Happy birthday to my lovely Mum! 🎉🎈❤️🎂
Amidst the renovations, and in spite of all the dust, it's so good to be home.
FINALLY boarded my flight. Ages before we will depart because: overhead locker Tetris and stupid people.
Clearly Nate Byrne will be feeling extremely comfortable about his job given the utter disaster that is his replacement while he's on holiday #ABCNewsBreakfast
Taylor is coming across as genuinely ignorant on almost every topic on #Insiders. It's deeply concerning that the leader of the opposition could really be that uninformed.
Last leg of a very long journey home.
Back at the Qantas Club for coffee.
Watching the inbound aircraft coming into the gate on flightaware and hearing the announcements saying "all passengers are disembarking" and saying, "bullshit".
However, the announcements have also said that other flights are delayed because there were "birds in the engine". So there's that.
Back at the Qantas Club. Priorities are food and wine.
Second leg of the trip. Airport is apparently a popular destination this arvo.
May the 4th be with you. #starwars

@mike805@noc.social my loads are done in 90 mins - less than a vented dryer. But the important thing is that the energy used by them is extremely low. @kcarruthers@infosec.exchange @corduroy@aus.social
Done my prep for tomorrow's session, created new content, now snacking in my Canberra hotel before going out for a later dinner.

@kcarruthers@infosec.exchange I have such pretty jonquils right now. I cut a few and put them in a vase.

@jaycee@toot.community @patrickhadfield@mastodon.scot I wouldn't worry about Streeting. It's going to Burnham.
Boarding my ... I dunno... Maybe 21st flight of 2026? Something like that.
