I am a huge fan of obsidian to write notes from research papers. But manually managing the note creation with all the bibtex info is also a pain. So my husband and I decided to automate it. I give you the bibtex-to-obsidian tool: Give it a bibtex key existing in your master bib file, and it will create a pre-populated obsidian note for you!

https://github.com/jrenoux/bibtex-to-obsidian

And it can be integrated with Emacs too :)

The fact that this video comes from a norwegian government-funded organization is brilliant!

These leading conferences have a position of power. They are in a place where they should be bold, daring, challenge the status quo and explore new alleyways. Instead, some of them choose to surrender to the hype. Disappointing.

I am delighted to announce that Dr. @katta@hci.social Spiel will be our invited speaker at the CHAI workshop at Interact in York. Their talk's title is "Machine Talk: How Artificial Language Technologies Come to Flatten Human Experiences."
If you are as excited as I am about their topic, consider submitting a position paper and joining us for the workshop!

@katharina@hci.social @rockpang@hci.social This is *so* timely! I am just preparing my session on the responsibility and role of the researcher for my AI Ethics course! Gonna go read that paper now! 😀

@fasterandworse I also read this article from the nytimes that mentioned how, according to research, faces generated by AI are perceived as more realistic than genuine photos, because of the lack of flaws of recent models (for white faces, of course) and that people are actually relying on flaws to spot AI... So now not only it will feel gross to realize you’ve been deceived, but also you may be called out on your pictures because you have some flaws in it... yeah? https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/01/19/technology/artificial-intelligence-image-generators-faces-quiz.html

📜 In short, ToM is an outdated and harmful concept, not properly backed up, that should be abandonned entirely. This does not mean that all the research done in Social Robotics is to be abandonned or redone, but that we need to rethink how we justify our work and what we actually do. #human_robot_interaction #HRI2026

They must write their paper knowing that it might not be actually read by a human, thus losing their sense of purpose. Why should we care about this if they are not even going to engage with it? Why should we spend time writing if we already know our careers hang at the mercy of probabilistic text written without meaning? Science is all about the people who make it, not about the papers.

@rockpang@hci.social Just finished it, and it’s really insightful! It is so surprising to see that even people who are close to innovation are not supported or don’t really consider these impacts. I am not at CHI, unfortunately, I would have loved to chat more with you about it, but I am definitely going to discuss your papers with my students in May, during the course. I am curious to see how Ph.D. students closer to theoretical research react to it!
