@mjd@mathstodon.xyz I think it's both, but finding bugs is a nice bonus. In bigger projects it helps identify useful patterns and raise flags to cross-pollinate ideas or communicate a change more widely.

@beandreams They're not communicating enough. And if is a problem for you, they now need to know your preference or needs.

@pluralistic The present danger I see is that reverse-centaur humans will resign themselves to not being able to assess the sheer quantity of AI slop, thereby polluting hard-won knowledge with an unstoppable quantity of unverified liability.
Of course the marketed answer is to funnel companies into buying yet more agentic LLM systems to take that load, but it doesn't stop the slop. It just creates more dependency on LLMs. It's a trap.

@SteveRudolfi@mastodon.social Let's keep Google away from DNS, because they'll hijack that also, to intercept direct requests.
Oh, they already do DNS. :/

@cstross@wandering.shop Seconded: Herman Miller Aeron. Expensive but solidly engineered. I bought it in 2019 to be stable, reliable, and last a while, and because I'd heard that it had genuinely good back support. It might not work for everyone, so I'd second the advice to give one a try before you buy.

@benalldridge@mastodon.social Binoculars into a no-lens SLR camera, held together with hope.
Maybe it didn't work, I can't remember. I was going for very high zoom, and I think I ended up using a 200mm lens also, for a ridiculous telephoto zoom, with the binoculars as a light bucket.
Resolution at the centre was tack-sharp, but fell off uselessly within 60% of the frame.
I was experimenting with photographing distant landscape features, and succeeded in capturing distant landmarks from viewpoints.

@DamonHD@mastodon.social I've often wondered about this (as someone with a technical background, but outside the industry): the best approach with zoning, TRVs, and [side topic] are various related industries failing to innovate and just accept the inefficient status quo to let the consumers keep burning gas?

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social I've wondered how much extra cost this incurs everywhere else, in order for Starlink to attempt to turn a selfish profit.

@david@muenster.im @pluralistic@mamot.fr Yes, public service is motivated to provide a service, whereas privatised services are motivated to provide as little service as possible.
