“Health and safety” trumps public access as beer garden blocking State-owned canal towpath route defended after millions spend on greenway

In theory, public investment of tens of millions of euro over decades should have left the Grand Canal Greenway accessible to wheelchair users, accessible/adapted cycles, parents with children in prams, cargo bikes, bicycle trailers, and touring cyclists with fully loaded panniers. But this is not the case. While the route between…

There is a need to address "lethal" conditions for school children in a Dublin suburb as motorists speed through the area with schools and make turns across red lights with little regard for children crossing the road, two Dublin City councillors have said. Cllr Carolyn Moore (Green Party) said there was a request for a site visit with councillors, officials and parents from Harold's Cross Educate…

Dublin’s streets broad and narrow are pothole-marked, so why were its councils only given 0.2% of recent roads funding?

-- Funding affects all road users, including those cycling and using public transport. -- Dublin subsidises other areas while it is left to fund their own road resurfacing. "Ministers for Transport announce over €1.5 billion for national, regional and local roads," said a recent Department of Transport headline, and you'd be forgiven for thinking…
