White supremacy in South Africa is maintained through a process of cultural violence that institutes a psychic whiteness as the normative condition of South African society. This psychic whiteness is instantiated through the means that are available to 'succeed' in our society. These means and measures of success are foreign, imposed through colonialism and capitalism, and maintained through the structural violence of neoliberalism. Success is obtained through embracing western values of individualism, hierarchy, and competition.
