@tbernard@mastodon.social 100% this. In 2 years a small team at Mistral managed make a competitive(ish) LLM, but in 20 years nobody (not even Microsoft) managed to make a decent competitor to iOS & Android. So maybe the EU could start to realize that the hard part is not AI, it's the platform

It is very important GrapheneOS ships pre-installed for its public perception.

There is a massive difference in public perception between:

• I typed obscure command lines to unlock my phone and install an unofficial custom OS

vs.

• I went to Fnac and bought this phone

Once GrapheneOS has OEM contracts and can be bought like any other brand, this will help a lot countering the smearing propaganda

@fabio@manganiello.eu there is also urgent matters that can only be addressed legally like the threat of Remote Attestation. Daily services (like banks and soon the entire web because of age verification everywhere) will be forbidden to any OS that is not Apple/Google/MS because the EU is pushing towards using Digital ID + Cryptographic Remote Attestation (preventing other OS, bootloader unlock, and more broadly open source software in general) everywhere. The EU is effectively banning non-US OS...

@crazyeddie@mastodon.social @fabio Never heard of that, pretty sure we don't have this option. The planned eID from EU, Switzerland etc. won't have card reader. Anyway we won't win this by going backward to cumbersome solutions. We could have the same usability with privacy. There is no legitimate security argument for OS Remote Attestation from Server to Client. Security is about securing your server/APIs not restricting the client device. This is control, anti-competitive and surveillance, not security
