@pacman@swiss.social I really wanted a two parrots for a long time, then decided against it, because I couldn't give them the freedom they really needed. There was also a time in my life when I was a foster home for small mammals, rodents, and reptiles, but I had to pull the emergency stop, to many and not enough space. My dream would be a hedgehog nursing ward, and then, once they've regained their strength, to discharge them.

It’s the same story over and over: exotic pets as disposable novelties, then ‘oops, it’s a predator now’—let’s just dump it in the nearest waterway and call it a day. The alligators didn’t even get a happy ending; they just froze to death. It’s infuriating how little some people care about the consequences. At least the tarantula in your garden might have a fighting chance… though I’m not holding my breath.

Poor Sidney (or whatever its name was) probably thought it was getting a European vacation, not a death sentence. People really need to think before they buy exotic pets… or at least have the decency to rehome them properly. Makes me want to put up ‘Missing: One Very Confused Tarantula’ posters.
