I am reliably informed that the racists who tried to take over Internet NZ last year have recruited other racists to try again this year.

I was one of several thousand people who successfully defended Internet NZ, and its $15M budget, at its AGM last year. It appears that we are in for a bigger fight this year.

Join by Monday May 11 to be eligible to vote in the AGM.

Aotearoa enrol to vote
Reminder to check with your friends and whānau that they are registered to vote: https://enrol.vote.nz/app/enrol/#/check-online Lots of people can vote: citizens can vote, residents can vote, as can anyone whose "visa does not require you to leave New Zealand within a specified time." Thousands of people with open ended work or study visa are in that last category, and you can all vote.

Big Tech Needs $2 Trillion In AI Revenue By 2030 or They Wasted Their Capex

As I've established again and again, we are in an AI bubble, and no, I cannot tell you when the bubble will pop, because we're in the stupidest financial era since the great financial crisis — though, I hope, not quite as severe in its eventually apocalyptic circumstances. By

@donkey@mastodon.nz It's not for rail either. The only reason it got funded is that there is a highway, the only road for dozens of km along that route, which needed that same sea wall. It's not spending on cycleways. It's not spending on railways. It's another subsidy for cars.

I have been surprised by how much I like @joshjacobsen@hachyderm.io He's really switched on. He wrote this recently: When looking at a specific technology I start by looking at the ownership structure, if its open-source, where is the data held, under what jurisdiction the company operates (is it subject to the US CLOUD Act, etc). The prompt didn't include open-source, or data sovereignty. He just knows the issues. We're all quite fortune to have him running for Parliament.

@civillibertynz@mastodon.social This isn't even one of the bills that we are upset about. Next week, we're going to have choice words about https://www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2026/268/en/latest/ And we're really going to be scathing about https://www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2026/267/en/latest/
