At last night's Retro Video Game gathering in Cambourne I got my #AcornAtom setup with a colour adapter. Here it is running Chuckie Egg.

Expanded my PWM experiments on the #Altair8800
I may(???) be the first to try this on such a primitive purely digital computer.

Programmed my #Altair8800 to address "Expansion Unit" register LEDs with PWM fading effects.

Have you seen that #Microslop advert on TV for Office #CoPilot where the pizza shop man types in (with his legs astride) "Help me bring back the $1 slice"?

... and the next shot is Excel doing its thing with lots of BOLLOX on the screen and then there's a queue of cars wanting to buy his $1 pizza!!!

What a cringe-athon extravaganza of BOLLOX!

@gpowerf Yes that is bonkers. Interesting C128 technical insight from @Kroc ... "Despite the 2MHz clock, it's said to be slower than the C64 because the code requires more ROM banking jumps and the clock is limited to 1MHz during screen display cycles"

@sashabilton In the ZX81's native "SLOW" mode, yes. In "FAST" mode the results should be idential.

@mfraz74@mastodon.social Yeah, good question. My Beeb is an issue 4 (the ones infamous for buzzy speaker). I was trying to diagnose the problem with my program not working with the command OSCLI (for adding variables to star commands) so I actually ordered BASIC 2 and also OS 1.2 but then I gathered it already had OS 1.2 installed, but as part of the MMF SD interface ROM.

@Firesledge @devlin When making a program for platform benchmark comparisons it's not important to make the program as fast as possible. That's irrelevant. Just a level playing field. I hand it to you to make an integer version of this program that will work on all the systems tested so far.

@timixretroplays@digipres.club This is fascinating. Perhaps different territories have different options/plans. I'm in UK and our "Business Standard" package is currently without CoPilot as a sneaky add-on. I will keep a close eye on this tho. Thank you for posting about this.

@apa Well each platform could have optimisations catered for, but this "unified" (as much as possible) program does give each system a level playing field. Thank you for doing this. I'll add it to the benchmarks.

@SvenGeier @apa The ZX80 processed without using clock cycles on producing the display. The ZX81 (in default SLOW mode) will be much slower. And I believe it's not possible to select FAST mode on the Spectrum anyway, so the Spectrum will be similar speed. Tho someone needs to do a test on an actual ZX81 default SLOW mode.
