Enrique López-Mañas
Software Engineer, runner, investor, writer, reader and private pilot. Intersection AI & InfoSec.
Author of the book "Living by the Code", publisher of the Kotlin Weekly, and some other things.
Finished a half marathon in Azuqueca, Spain. Feeling much better than I felt at the Innsbruck Ultra last weekend. You can’t skip training if you want to run properly.
I am keeping the @kotlinweekly@kotlin.social AI free, and it is honestly my little moment of joy on Sunday morning: searching articles, updating my TODO list, checking announcements, and doing a bit of a write-up.
Could I automate all this with AI? Yes.
Would it make my life better, or provide more value to readers? Probably not.
I went this morning to the doctor for a medical recognition. He weighted me, and told me that my BMI says I am obese. He did a bit of theater, broke the paper and told me the BMI is bullshit.
I weight 80 kg, 174 centimeters. Right at the start of obesity. I run ultra marathons, go to the gym regularly and generally take the bike twice per day.
BMI just checks the relationship between weight and height. According to this, a body builder is probably morbidly obese.
Paced today a 10K in a small town near Munich. The atmosphere in little places is always fantastic.
Finished the first Spring half-marathon. Very out of shape after the winter break.
Started today a book I wanted to read for a while, and very appropriate for 2026.
We have a new Kotlin Users Group Munich! The previous one was deleted.
If you would like to follow our community and stay in touch with upcoming events, feel free to join!
Landed in Saigon. The new QR code to expedite immigration has, unsurprisingly, no effect in immigration time.
I also always underestimate the heat and humidity.
US and Chinese LLM companies reached the place they have by canibalising global knowledge , including copyright content.
They should be lenient if EU companies attempt the same.
If only we could have some laws to prevent this:

Today we went to take some pictures of the Sakura in Munich.
Finishing the Kotlin Weekly from an airport today
I have realised that LLMs (specifically Gemini) tend to do some things I don’t like at the start, like squashing commits when committing something new, or pushing to GitHub without my confirmation if it is using the gh cli. I have published some of the skills I am using when working with it:
Trying this Sunday the new JetBrains IDE (are agentic environments also called IDEs?)
Gemini CLI deprecated in favour of Antigravity CLI:

Ich habe die Deutschen überdeutscht.
The case against an imminent software developer apocalypse.
Since the advent of ChatGPT, the software developer population has grown between 18% and 50%, depending on.
One of the problems I find with skills in LLMs is that they are very scattered through documentation pages, GitHub repos, etc. I would like to have a repository where I can search them, and ideally install them directly via my CLI
I have published FindSkills.dev, a small pet project to collect skills with some search functionality:
TIL about Spec, keeping quality in LLM prompting:
The tickets for the Kyoto marathon are open.
In 2017, I paid ¥16,500.
Today, they cost ¥35,500.
Do I know any Senior Backend Engineer with Kotlin for a contracting role?
Proficiency with Kotlin and Coroutines, API design and development with REST or GraphQL
Open to travel to London or Berlin occasionally; EU, UK and EEA-based candidates.
"There Is No Antimemetics Division"" didn't resonate too much with me.
I think the error was to read the book BEFORE actually reading the short stories or watching the short SCP movies. I went down the rabbit hole of short horror movies, and they are awesome.
As much as I love Vietnam, some of the subtle authoritarian quirks still piss me off.
Last government rule: if you stay overnight at a friend’s place, you're required to register it through the government app. Sure, it’s mostly symbolic since it's virtually impossible to enforce, but it’s a telling example of the surveillance mindset you occasionally run into.
All about agents Skills:
Gemma 4 has been released under an Apache 2.0 License:
Gemini has unacceptable response times for simple things, despite paying 250 € per month.
I will be pacing for the second year in a row the Munich Marathon. Really glad to be a small part of the running community in Munich.
The Busy Person’s Guide to Thinking
I just published "Instructing AIs: From Prompt Engineering to System Skills":

If you are based in Munich and want to get started as a Pacer in the running world, the Landshut orga team is looking for a pacer for the 10K á la 1:05 (6:30 min/kilometer).
