Man I wish scrollbars were something other than a faint whisper at the edge of the screen these days.

Mid 30's queer here. Nonbinary and bisexual.
I enjoy playing Pokemon romhacks on my gamedad. Big fan of horror media, we watch so many horror movies in our house.
I enjoy crafting text adventure websites and managing my Linux systems in my homelab.
Our lilac bush Lilian is blooming! @KingWesinald@retro.social loves this bush.
#bloomscrolling
We repotted so many plants today! I'm so glad @KingWesinald@retro.social did all the hard work.
I'm going to be setting up 16 drives in a raid array. Whats my best bet for this for my home lab NAS? Hardware based vs software based raid array? Whats a good os for NAS machines? FreeBSD does nice things with zfs storage doesn't it?
Having pizza for dinner and watching TMNT! It tickles me to watch this show with pizza.
I really hate the chore of shaving. It's bullshit that I have to do it so often XD.
I've been using MATE as my desktop for a few weeks and I have to say I like it a lot. I spent a lot of time with Gnome2 so this really feels like home. It's almost nostalgic to have the static four virtual desktops.
Thank the gods that Tusky lets me filter out likes and boosts from my notifications. One of my posts blew up and destroyed my notifications. I can still keep up with the handful of mentions.
I need to start documenting my homelab! Might as well start now.
I've got server1 running yunohost with 10tb of storage. She's my main machine. Serves the family with jellyfin to watch media. I also recently put the *arr stack on this server to manage the media.
I've also got a soon to be running server2 that will have an additional 16tb of storage with FreeBSD for the os.
There's also my laptop running Debian that I use to manage my machines.
And that's my homelab setup I think. I have more hardware but this is what runs regularly.
I was a dummy and forgot to order screws to mount my hard drives! So now it'll be even longer before I can get this project off the ground. I also need to dig out my old ssd drives for a boot drive.
tmux and midnight commander for multiple file copies at a time! like a sane person I am I promise.
I'm working on an adventure map set in Jupiter's Ghost and I've been stuck on deciding how big the spaceships that the player gets to explore should be. Are these tiny one person ships that don't take up much space, or big elaborate ones that house entire communities? I think they are more often small. perhaps some familial groups as well.
I really like https://phanpy.social as a mastadon client because the way it groups boosts I can just easily scroll past them. Boosts are not my favorite thing about timelines.
Installing OpenBSD on a SD card so I can test drive it on my system. I was unable to get WiFi working in the installer, hopefully I'll be able to get it running manually on the running system after install.
My diary and personal website are currently all wrapped up in Emacs. Emacs is great, but I'm not proficient in elisp and that makes me nervous. Plus we're still waiting for an Emacs decision on AI. It gets more and more tempting to convert my stuff to shell scripts.
Holy shit Autistici/Inventati is shutting down? I only just learned of their existence because of the Aug 26 thingie. Sigh. They were such a cool collective. In the short time I've known about them I've been almost idolizing them. They did the exact kind of work I would like to do, building infra for and by regular folk.
I'm particularly enamored with how the put the least technically proficient person in front of the computer to set up that first server. What a thoughtful thing to do!
But I should explore what kind of infra I can build that would actually be useful today. It's clear the model Autistici/Inventati used that I admire so much isn't 100% viable. Maybe I should explore building a physically local sneakernet.
I would like to host a little sneaker net style digital library along side the physical little free library we have in our yard.
Probably just something as simple as a directory listing with some assorted digital library materials that I hand choose.
I've got a spare wifi router and raspberry pi 3b to run this on. Obviously with the news of late I want to shy away from linux on the pi. I assume various BSDs support the pi though, it's a popular platform.
I pulled an older thinkpad out of storage and swapped in my primary drive. So now I'm posting from that. I forgot how much nicer the keys are on this machine! It has seen less wear even though it's a year older.
The processor is slower though, and it's noticable in boot time and program load times. But really not a deal breaker, It's the same architecture, so my system boots and runs fine, even have bluetooth still! I think the battery in this one is shot though, so I'll probably swap that out from my other machine.
My Thinkpad overheated for the second time. Seems like it's time to do some maintenance on it. I should probably get some thermal paste and redo that.
So I've recently returned to using yt-dlp and mpv for my youtube video needs. What originally spurred it was because youtube itself was crashing firefox on my debian 12 machine. but damn this is so preferrable. mpv has minimal interface, just so little gets between me an my trash youtube videos lol. and yt-dlp works wonderfully! some minor issues with my vpn but not many.
Oh Debian. You've now voted to allow slop. I didn't jump the gun this time, I read the votes page from Debian itself. I need to lean even harder into learning a BSD properly. I have a server sitting silent right now that I intend to put FreeBSD on. Gonna be my storage machine. Thing is I'm dependent on Yunohost, which runs on Debian. So my media machine will remain that for awhile. I should learn how to set up jellyfin manually. That would get me a long way to being able to run my media pc on a BSD.
I wish the "see more" option, labeled as "Expand" in Moshidon, would tell me how much more there is. I never know if it's three lines or two hundred.
Man reddit is trash. I've found some options for managing custom lists are only available via mobile. I've also found other features related only available via desktop. The interface is trash lol.
