I adore this album. I won it on cassette from our local rock radio station (93RoxFM!), but went on to buy the CD and a Discman. I cleaned at my dad's work each Friday evening at the time (locksmiths), and each week I would start with this album. For years after I still associated certain songs with certain machines I would have been brushing key filings from when they played. This one would've played while I did the cutters to the right of the cash register/reception (from a worker's POV).

I've shared this, and the relevance, before.
This song helped me process a particularly hard-hitting death. Plus, it has a cameo by one of my favourite authors, Joe Abercrombie (& his wife; smooching) who, I believe, edited it.

I remember thinking in the 1990s that this was about historical events, but it was much more contemporary (as my History teacher pointed out to an ignorant me). As it still is today…
There is far too much history we refuse to learn from.

So, Extreme got really popular when "More Than Words" was released as a single. I liked it well enough, and "Hole Hearted", but it was the opening of this song that drew me in. "Flight of the Bumblebee" on guitar.
Why?
Because one of my brother's best mates recorded himself playing it just as well as this, and I had that recording on cassette.
And then I got into Extreme's "III Sides To Every Story" album. And eventually the rest of their discography.
Extreme "He-Man Woman Hater"
- This is not the Extreme song I wanted to share, but I couldn't figure out a personal enough experience for the other… other than once watching a reaction to it on Youtube and loving getting to experience it "for the first time" again. Sigh.

Over the past few years I've been listening to a lot of philosophy Youtube video essayists. They're cool and all, but sometimes it feels like there's something missing. Last year or so, I tuned in pretty deeply to Esoterica and No Nonsense Spirituality.
Along with these influences, I have been developing the world-building for my next Fantasy series and really pondering how humans work, both in the real world and with regards spirituality and playing with such ideas as my story world takes shape.
Anyway, it's led to this song being my "Song of 2026". It's just perfect for where I'm at.

I vividly remember hearing this song for the first time. I'd just been into radiology and come out with some pretty clear scans of my first baby (not my first scan, but the first where he looked like a baby and not a bean).
Came out from radiology, climbed into my husband's work ute… and when he started it, the radio played this. And I loved it.

Late 1990s-early 2000s I used to love going out to dance along to these guys. They were really popular in Dunedin, the dance floor always full. My favourite memory is them playing on the stage that used to be int eh lower Octagon one summer evening. It rained (it's OK, there was a cover over the stage, so the band/instruments were fine), but that just added to the atmosphere.
