They know what the objections are. Start reallocating significant space away from private cars to other forms of transport, offer higher frequency bus services between places that people need/want to go, build segregated bike lanes on all major roads, reduce speed limits and engineer roads appropriately so they don't feel like race tracks, far more pedestrian crossings with much greater priority for people on foot. I could go on....
