techbro oligarchs are only in this game to extract wealth. if they can get that wealth by selling your information, they will. if they can get that wealth by selling your eyeballs for advertising, they will. if they can get that wealth by leveraging content you created by restricting access to the API, they will.
they only care what wealth they can extract. not you.
