In contrast, the current government initiated no new safe routes and actually, unbelievably, closed refugee family reunion. That was an unprecedented step and there can, in my view, be no moral justification for it. It's about family of refugees already here who cannot return to their home country.

There is a massive displaced and refugee population internationally and there's only so much any one country can do unilaterally. It's fine to push a government to do more but there's always going to be some sort of limit and opinions will differ on capacity.

A few token places on safe and legal routes for refugees cannot in any way mitigate or atone for what this government has done and is doing on asylum or immigration policy. A thread trying to be clear-eyed about this.
