While I think the metric system should be used more, I’ll also defend frantional measurements when precision matters. Decimal measurements only increase by a factor of 10. So if your precision is 1/8 of a meter, you have to either found to the nearest meter, overstate your precision (0.125 implies precision to 1mm), or essentially write a sentence (“125mm plus or minus 62.5mm”). With fractional, the precision is built into the denominator. If your measurement of half a meter is precise to half a meter, you record it as “1/2”. If it’s precise to an pitch of a meter, you record it as “4/8”.

Rural town near me has 3 gas stations, and they all have them. They’re also all owned by the same guy and the prices are like 60-70 cents higher than any of the neighboring cities, but since it’s 20 miles to a station he doesn’t own he gets away with it.

I’m sick of all these fascist plants pretending to be progressive while trying to convince us it’s not worth bothering to vote Dem in the upcoming elections because they’re all the same. They aren’t, and you know they aren’t you fucking Nazi. The progressive movement is having its best year ever in the Democratic primaries and can continue to do so. We need to change the party, yes. But that’s secondary to removing power from Trump. Biden, Obama, and Clinton weren’t true leftists. But they sure as shit weren’t the dumpster fire we have now and we HAVE to neuter these fuckers in November.

Their gas is super cheap compared to everyone else in my area. Like - I paid 2.99 a gallon there yesterday and another place nearby was like 3.79. I actually don’t fully understand why their gas is so cheap. I would think it was to get people in the store, but Bucees doesn’t generally have the gas prices posted on signs like everyone else.

It depends. The air conditioning will remove moisture from the air while cooling th cab, so the condensation can only form on the outside, where you have wind and windshield wipers to wipe off the condensation.

The Chinese models were also developed later and allegedly didn’t have to focus so hard on the initial acquisition of training data, so were able to build their models completely differently. Think of it like developing dictionary technology. For the first dictionary, the hardest part is finding all the words that need to be defined. After that it’s just a matter of adding new words occasionally as they’re found. That’s the “theft” the Western AI companies accused the Chinese companies of doing. By starting with the initial training data from Western devs, the Chinese AIs (allegedly) skipped over the hard part, which means they are able to focus more of their processing on the end product. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, depending on your perspective (ignoring all the ethical questions around AI data acquisition). Duplicating work someone else has already done is wasteful. But it’s also disingenuous to say that the guy who takes an existing dictionary and changes all the definitions did a “better job” than the guy who wrote the first one, even if the end product is, in fact, better.

When Inwas in college, I saw that the local high school was putting on a performance of "The Secret of Monkey Island." My best friend and I loved the games and were excited to see it, so we bought tickets. I cannot express how bad it was. I've sat through some awful shit, but we just couldn't take it. We walked out of a high school play because it was *that* bad.

What I'll defend, however, is fractional measurements when precision matters. With decimal measurements, precision can't be nearly as granular. If your measurement is precise to one 1/8 of a unit, how do you represent that in decimal? 0.625 implies your measurement is precise to the nearest thousandth, but rounding it to 1 also isn't precise. 5/8, however, tells you the measurement AND the precision. With fractional measurements, you can specify precision by changing the denominator to any number, whereas decimal is essentially fractional measurements, but with fixed denominator at powers of 10. For instance, a measurements of a half-unit with levels of precision between 0.1 and 0.10, fractional can be 6/12, 7/14, 8/16, 9/18, 10/20, 24/48, etc. Decimal can't specify that precision without essentially writing a sentance. What's simpler to record? "24/48" or "0.5 +- 0.208333...."

People's feelings about the economy is the strangest predictor of change in modern American politics. And right now people are *pissed* and the GOP's greatest politcal.weakness right now is that they have too much power. It's harder to put the blame on the Dems when the GOP has absolute control over all 3 branches of government. Honestly, the Dem's inability to put together a filibuster due to Fetterman may be a secret advantage.

Photoshop and Lightroom are what keep me with Adobe. The Open Source stuff simply doesn't cut it for my needs. I actually prefer Inkscape over Illustrator. I also still have a lingering fondness for Corel Draw, but I think that's mostly because I started using it back in 89 when it released. I also sometimes miss the simple days of learning to use a mouse with Dr Halo.

The form are important because 90% of the applicants for a job these days aren’t remotely qualified because people shotgun resumes at a hundred jobs at once without even reading the qualifications and all their resumes are formatted differently. I don’t have the time to go through that, so yeah - I filter out people who don’t bother to fill in the fields because they probably didn’t even read what the job is. The fields get the resume to my desk. The resume and cover letter get you an interview, and the interview gets the job offer. I hear about all these people sending out hundreds of job applications in every direction with no response, and it makes sense. When you’re competing against a hundred people for a job, you won’t stand out with a half-ass application. Focus on doing fewer, higher-quality applications.

It’s also not necessarily conscious evil. Someone who is poor is more likely to recognize the effort required to acquire treats that are trivial for the wealthy. To the wealthy, the candy has essentially zero value, so they don’t recognize the harm caused by taking it from others.

He’s not a convicted rapist. It was a civil case, which is about liability, not guilt. There’s no such thing as conviction or acquittal. He’s a man a jury found to be liable for sexual assault, and that’s how we should describe him. It’s important that we be correct, because the other side jumps on any tiny thing that’s slightly wrong to justify their outrageous lies. Don’t give ammunition to the “both sides” assholes.

Before grabbing my rifle, I’d appreciate it if people would at least try voting first. Vote Democrat in the general election for harm reduction, and vote in the Democratic primaries to move the party left. Gas prices are at record highs. Whatever your thoughts are on cars or how gas may still be too cheap considering the damage it causes or whatever, the reality is that high gas prices have historically been really bad for incumbent parties in mid-terms. With that and the historic disapproval rating of Trump, there hasn’t been an election more primed for a flip than this one in our lifetimes. It’s why they’re working so fucking hard to supress votes. They know they’re in real trouble.

I grew up in a town with a huge standing weekly flea market everyone knew about where everyone knew you were buying stolen stuff, fake IDs, bootlegs, etc. The way I finally convinced my family that TPB wasn’t illegal was by asking them if it was a crime to tell someone where the flea market was.

How many times did Biden bomb Iran? How many heads of state did he arrest? How many global trade wars did he start? When did Biden kill USAID resulting in the deaths of millions worldwide? When did he make a settlement with himself to prevent prosecution of his financial crimes? When did he pardon thousands of people for trying to violently overthrow an election? When did he deploy the military on US cities to round up anyone who looked like they may be Mexican? You’re either a fucking idiot or a right-wing troll trying to convince people not to vote against the GOP. Either way, kindly shut up and get out of the way.
